Just got an email from Interfolio saying that my account is going to expire soon. They want a decent amount of money to keep my account active for a few more years. I've been accepted and am starting this fall so I can't really see a reason why I would need those LORs/transcripts/etc, but then again some of those things would be hard to get back if for some reason I needed them again.

What are other accepted people doing with their Interfolio accounts? Let it drop or keep it running?

I thought that even if you let it expire and for some reason you needed those letters again, then you could just re-sign up. They dion't just throw away your letters and account.
I let mine drop because I don't plan on using it again until later when I apply for residency. I still have some letters of rec saved in my e-mail, in case I need a job though

So it's 40$ for a 3-yr extension. If you have letters that could help you with something other than med school, maybe pay it, if you have letters that only pertain to getting into med school, I don't see the point, even if they dropped them, it wouldn't matter...

I have had Interfolio since 2004 and let my account expire in 2005; I only just re-activated in 2009--everything from 2004 is still there. All records in Interfolio are kept indefinitely whether or not you pay the renewal fee.

Huh that's interesting. I wouldn't think they would hold on to all those files, especially if it demotivates people like me who might otherwise keep their accounts active. Well I guess that settles that. Thanks!

Interfolio will archive your documents for 5 years (from their website). I also thought about paying to maintain the file, but everything in there is specific to my med school applications but decided it's not worth it right now.
