I am an international student but I have a green card. I applied 15 schools, and I got 2 rejections so far (Case Western and Nova). I didn't get any interview invitation yet. I have been waiting more than 2 months to hear some good news, but I keep losing my confidence. My friend who applied a week later than me already got 4 interviews. I don't know why they don't like me.
People say there are still available interview seats, but aren't those seats for the people who apply recently and future? Do I still have a chance even though my mailing date is Aug 20? Thank you and good luck for everybody.

Where have you applied ?
Did you talk to Nova and Case on why you were rejected ?

Which university did you do your courses at?

Are you done all the pre-reqs?

To be honest with you, there must be something wrong with your application and it is not the stats. Your stats are great. Is it your Ref letters? Do you have shadowing ? ....

What about your rec letters?? Do you think that "they" wrote "nice" things about you??
And what kind of extracurricular activities do you have???

Did you call all the schools up to make sure they have all of your info? Your mailing date is not that late and your stats are really good.

Also, you are not applying as an international if you hold a green card; you will be given the same level of consideration as citizens, FYI.

As the poster above me already mentioned, do you have anything you can think of that could be in the LOR's that would deter dental schools from wanting you? If not, I'd say be patient. You have decent stats and you will get some interviews. 👍

Which 4 interviews did your friend get? Any of them schools you also applied to?

My mentor who wrote my cover letter for my recommendation letter package told me that every recommendation letters I have are really good.
I finished my pre-requisites and I am taking Biochemistry and Anatomy classes this semester.
I didn't contact with Case Western and Nova yet. Do you think I should do it?
My friend got an interviews from UNC, ECU, Nova, Louisville.

yes, why not?

Yes, because there is some major flaw in your application. Your stats are just too good be ignored like this. In my opinion, with these numbers, you should have atleast 4 interviews by now.

I agree with previous post! you have to call and check!

if you have a green card, i dont think you are considered an international student.

That is even better then. What you think? Do I still have a chance even though my mailing date is Aug 20? Thank you.

I am going to e-mail them today. I thought e-mail is better than phone call.

Call them today!!!! Don't drag this thing out any longer... phone call gives immediate response and you can ask even more questions to the answers you get!!

Your stats are seriously incredible... 3.8 and 20 dat... you should have invites left and right!!

Call.... Call.... Call.... and let us know what happens!!! Good luck!!! 😀

that is really confusing, with your stats you should get SOME interviews if everything is OK.

Interestingly, I did not get rejected at both NOVA or Case, so here might be something with your application? Personal Statement, perhaps?

My stats are a lot different from the typical though, but seriously? Not 1? I find that hard to believe...

Maybe it really is a crap-shoot.

I called Case Western, and I spoke with one guy. The reason he could think about is two. One is my chem and ochem score and the other is my reading score. But I don't get it because I have 21 chem and 21 ochem. I have 17 RC, so it is understandable, but I didn't expect it is that much huge to reject me. I thought my gpa and other section would cover that. I am not sure if he just tried to find some excuse or that is real reason. Maybe I should retake the DAT then. What do you think?

that is just one guy, hard to say.

17 is about the minimum requirement for the RC section though, and a lot of schools look at that.

Maybe case is a more DAT heavy school that I originally thought. Had though that they were big on GPA.

RC is an important section. 17 is a bit low.

This is what I think. Maybe schools are rejecting you b/c they think your GPA is inflated. With 3.99 sGPA you really should have scored higher on your DAT to be consistent.

My 2 cents

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

POSSIBLE REASON: (after reading some of your previous thread):
You said that you had computer science degree. Did you receive your BS in computer science in America?

If not, it may be a reason why because dental school require you to have at least 90 credits from US accredited college. 90% students who got accepted will earn BS degree from US colleges before entering dental schools.

You said you're doing post-bac and you took Cal I, II, III and Physic I, II so I assume that you had BS in computer science in your country because you would probably took all of them if you've done CS degree in America.

Please correct me if i'm wrong. Btw, sorry for my assumption

Don't be sorry. Thank you for your input. I got my BS degree in computer science in America. I was a transfer student, so I didn't have to take those classes at that time in the States. I just had to take upper level classes. After I graduated I went back to my country and work for 2 years and then came back to become a dentist. I started every pre-requisite classes in the State from 2 years ago including 1 year college writhing classes. I took 55 credits, and I have 53 credits from previous school, so total 108 credits except this semester.
I will call to Nova tomorrow and ask them the reason. If they have the same reason, then I guess I need to take DAT again.
There are a lot of good applicants this cycle, and that's why I didn't get any interview yet I guess. Good luck every one and thank you.

please disregard my question if you have already mentioned it somewhere but would that be your 2nd attempt for DAT or third one if you were to take your DAT again? just wondering....

If I take it again, it will be my second try.

In my opinion you would be crazy to take the DAT again... 20's across the board is solid... it sounds like your "foreign" status might have something more to do with it. Also maybe it's because like someone mentioned earlier, that you don't have the 90 credit from american school cutoff.

I would almost guarantee your DAT and GPA are not the problem. Also a 17 in the RC is not that bad, especially if english is not your native language.... i don't think any schools have a cut off or 17 in that area.

I agree with you and that's why I am so depressed. I don't know what to do. By the way, I took 108 credits in America so far, so it is more than 90 credits.

I think that you should not worry that much if you already have BS degree in US.
Your international student status don't hurt you either, especially at private schools.
I know several people are under F-1 visa here on SDN but still got into dental school their first choice. (one apply 9 and got 9 interviews). The only thing is that they are still undergrad which means they show the committee that they are truly interest in being a dentist. Did you mention anything about working 2 years in your country? (not a good idea).

My questions: did you study hard for DAT (how many months)????? Are your Science GPA and BCP GPA calculated only in your post bacc? They should average both all your undergrad and post bacc I think.
BTW, would you like to email me if you get info from any dental school? I would like to know how they see your application.
GOD BLESS YOU !!!! hope you get in this cycle. it's only october.

Thank you. I hope so too. I spent a month to prepare DAT. Mostly for science sections. My GPA is the average of both my undergrad and post-bac. I will e-mail you if I get some information.

...Was your personal statement any good? Because I'm noticing your English skills aren't so hot, but other stats are fine.

Like TK2006 said, a green card holder is not considered international. You should even be considered in-state, methinks. Did you apply to your state school?

As everyone else has said, your stats are definitely good. Maybe think about calling up all the schools you applied to and don't get off the phone until you get some satisfactory answers.

p.s. @toothes, i would assume spell-check was used. hopefully that helped to negate any potential grammatical bombs.

DC doesn't have any in-state school. It is too bad.
Whenever I call to Nova, nobody pick up the phone. It is just answering machine, so I sent an e-mail. Hopefully, they contact me soon.
Yes, I did grammar check before I turned in my personal statement. 🙂
