Kinda dumb question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
273K is used for gases. If you are given a question and it says it is at STP use 273K (standard temperature).

Example: Idea Gas Law PV = nRT, use T = 273 K if STP

298K is for things involved in thermodynamics. So if you are asked to give standard enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs free energy, or voltage you will use 298K (standard conditions).

Examples: Gives free Energy: deltaG = deltaH - TdeltaS, use T = 298 K if standard conditions

Hope that answers your question.

When do you use 298 K instead of 273 K?

try not to memorize, it is easy concept when you have standard condition that means 25 C, and you must add to 273 which will give you 298 because you need kelvin in your formula( any fourmula you see "T" must be in Kelvin)
in addition, we don't have stupid question, maybe stupid answer 😎.
good luck 👍
