Kinda silly, but what are your hobbies?

I LOVE to knit and crochet, sew also. I also love to cook and garden, and we hunt (deer). If need be, from the stuff we've canned and the meat in the freezer, we'd be ok if D-day came 😉

Actually, with knitting and crocheting, thats how I'm paying for some of my prereq courses!😱 Gotta do what you gotta do.

So, what are some of your hobbies?

Members don't see this ad.

Beer brewing, baking, and (when I had time and money) martial arts.
Been thinking about learning java or ruby on rails, and brushing up on/learning more math, and learning how to finagle a DSLR camera.

When it's nice enough outside, I have a couple of BMW and Mercedes project cars. one of them is eventually destined for resale or a 24 hours of Lemons car (anyone wanna field a SDN race team?) Plus the wife and I ride motorcycles.

Inside: I collect Lionel Electric Trains, primairly the post WW2 and late 80's eras along with some N-Scale model railroading.

Cooking, playing golf, surfing the net reading news articles, photography, taking my dog to the park. Oh, and tracking the weather around the country. lol.

Let's see...
I collected coins for the longest time, but sold most of my collection to put a down payment on a house. Will probably end up selling the rest through the course of medical school.
I enjoy photography, and have a DSLR Pentax camera.
I enjoy going to the gun range, but haven't much recently because of money.
I made some stained glass pictures in the past, but don't have my own equipment (such as a grinder, soldering iron, etc.) so haven't done much of that recently either.
I like to read but with a baby at home don't have that much time to do so. Also am writing a book, doubt it will be publishable, but who knows.
I have a few aquariums though have slacked in my maintenance of them recently.
Lots of things I like to do, a whole bunch more I would like to do when time and money permits, such as learn to fly a plane, get started with home brewing, etc etc.

Gardening, video games, snowboarding, travel, and my kitties (taking care of pets is a hobby, I guess).

Long distance running, weight lifting, martial arts, video games, football, reading, writing, scuba diving, snorkeling, free diving. I try to do something new every few months; I want to take a class on making sushi and also take up tap-dancing.

Running, hiking, reading and played 4 seasons of roller derby, although I don't know that I can count that as an EC 🙂

Wait wait, why couldnt you could RD as a EC? I sure as hell am. Where are you from?!? I'm still a new girl so I'm not skills tested yet 🙁

I also think I have a hobby of surgeries. I've had a surgery for the following years 98, 99, 03, 05, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11...

I'm so sorry you've had to go through all those surgeries. Hopefully that means you get a reprieve going forward.

You think RD could be an EC? I just assumed the too many people have too little understanding of it and that it might be too counterculture. Roller derby can take up a lot of time between practices and committee work, but I totally recommend it. I skated with Atlanta until my previous job ate my life.

hiking, skiing, swimming, reading, interior design, real estate, cooking but not baking, travel

Current Hobbies:

Poker
Boarding
Board games
Creating hair care products
Long-Distance running
Reading
Free-Thinking

Future Hobbies:

Hobby Farm (if I decide to have children)
Cooking
Triathlons
Rebuilding old houses and classic cars
Golf
Tennis
Survival Expeditions

I went ice climbing all day today. I'll ski to the grocery store tomorrow. Ice skating on Friday. My hobbies seem to revolve around a low entropy state of H2O.

Probably everyone has heard of 24 hours of LeMans, but I'm always surprised when someone else talks about 24 hours of Lemons 🙂 Very nice.

I like to cook, I'm also into cars but I have no experience actually working on them.

Rock Climbing
Skiing
Beer
Ice Climbing
Biking
Sitting in hot springs with people I like talking about crazy memes, burning man, chocolate, nature, hobbies, anything with a good vibe while drinking a good brew.

Photography, especially storms; sculpture work, swimming, biking, kayaking, pretty much anything outdoors in the summer, writing poetry and fiction, ballroom when I had money

I would like to get into triathlons and/or martial arts as well and at some point I want to learn how to make ice sculptures

Hmmmmm, lets see:
Fishing (main hobby)
Boating
Free diving
Scuba diving
Getting pissed at MW3 and throwing the remote 😉
Flying my Blade 400 3d RC helicopter ( or crashing it)
Going to the gun range
Camping
Hiking

But, my most important hobby is teaching my 2 kids school work, life lessons, to follow their dreams of becoming anything that interest them, and all the previously mentioned activities.

Oh yeah, and racing Street bikes, Yamaha R6, but after several heated debates with the wife and an ultimatum between my boat and racing, agreed that it was too expensive of a hobby

See! I know trads have some interesting hobbies, but I bet NOTHING they do touches some of the cool stuff nontrads have gotten to do!

As for RD, LMac, I'm putting it on because it's different than the standard ECs most AdCOMs see. Maybe it'll spark a question or too. They are grooming this girl to be a jammer. Gotta get these hips up and going

Past and current hobbies:
Cooking
Juggling
Marathoning
Flying (Cessnas, though I briefly got into katanas )
Stonemasonry
Beer brewing
Reading, mostly history

I make it a point to try lots of different things, but those are the ones that 'stuck' and I actually devoted a lot of time to.

Guitar
Marathons / triathlons
Traveling
Video games
Reading
Cooking
Building computers
Motorcycle tinkering (better at taking apart than putting together 🙁)
Being a student & accumulating constant debt

See! I know trads have some interesting hobbies, but I bet NOTHING they do touches some of the cool stuff nontrads have gotten to do!

I think you're definitely right about that. Having at least a few extra years, particularly a few years outside of college, gives us a lot more opportunity to more fully develop or take on a different set of hobbies. Even if they aren't directly applicable to med school requirements, they at least make us appear to be interesting and serve as great ice-breaker topics.

Running/ Marathoning
Crossfit
Reading
Cooking & baking
Playing the drums (hand drums, bodhran)
Cross stitching
Hiking
Yoga & meditation
Painting
Juggling
Travel

Hm. This looks a lot stranger when I write it all out.

Fishing, boating, traveling, a little storm chasing here and there and now working on an abandoned high school that we just picked up incredibly cheap. It'll be home sweet home after some work.

Wait, you must describe this High school turned into a home...

Reading
Cooking
Travel (reading about it, planning it, doing it, sometimes writing about it!)
Walking

At least, these are the things I have always spent my spare time and hard-earned money on... books, traveling, cooking equipment, interesting ingredients, new sneakers.

I also like swimming, snorkeling, playing with my niece and godson, throwing parties with my friends, reading news on the Internet, going to movies and theatre, but these are all free activities or things that I only get to do on special occasions.

Hiking... walking
My dogs... yes they can be a hobby
teaching yoga
art appreciation
facebooking (does that qualify?)

Hiking, biking (road), motorcycles, dirtbikes, dogs, skiing, baking... I do no crafts of any kind...

I have a few....I do not do them all at once hehe. I have phases.

They are....
music, art, making jewelry, sewing stuff, photoshop, video games, reading fantasy novels, cooking, dancing, writing, nature photography, nature walks, meditating , computer stuff, anime, coming up with creative activities for my daughter that are educational (that is a hobby..I think), watching martial arts movies (is that a hobby??)

I am starting a new one shortly. I will be learning Tai Chi 🙂 From now on first thing in the morning I will practice Tai Chi .....if I stick with it for a few months I may branch into using a sword with it since I used to do belly dance sword dancing . My sword is still hanging by my bed 🙂

Whitewater kayaking
Hiking
Climbing, mostly sport and top-rope but I'm slowly learning to lead trad
Playing music, mainly cheesy folk songs and Appalachian old-time tunes
Skiing, both downhill and xc, but not much of either lately with the lousy winter we've been having on the East Coast 🙁

And my New Year's resolution is to become a better cook! So far I've made two or three good dinners and the rest have been the usual blah. But I'm working on it.

Some of you have a million hobbies...no idea how

I might have a few listed, but like I said I have phases and many of them I do in my own home while relaxing.

To the whitewater kayak guy, kudos. I have a fear of drowning so I would probably freak out if I did that. I can swim and I enjoy swimming, but I go 😱:scared: if someone dunks me in a pool let alone being in a small kayak like that.

Classmate of mine was a Detroit derby girl. It is definitely a legit EC. 👍 A few times at official school functions where they talked about our class(you know, how many did volunteer work, had other degrees, age, etc), they brought it up. 🙂

Totally understand. I've been kayaking since I was twelve, so I don't get freaked out being temporarily underwater, but I try to keep a healthy respect for what water can do to you. In fact, the near-drowning of someone I was paddling with was one of a series of events that first got me thinking about medicine.

-Travel! I try to make it out of the country twice per year.
-Photography for the past nearly ten years, mostly to document my travels.
-Rock climbing several times per week. Mostly outdoor TR, but I'm slowly learning to lead. Really want to learn trad.
-I'm a diver, and I really want to certify as a full cave diver.
-Hiking...I'm planning on doing a southbound hike of the PCT starting this July!
-Home brewing when I can get around to it.
-Sea kayaking, as I live near many cool rocky beaches.
-Language learning. I've been learning Arabic for like five years. Trying to learn it, I mean. This probably started my travel craze.
-I took BJJ and Muay Thai for a little over a year, but stopped a couple years ago. I'd really like to pick it back up, or maybe Krav Maga or something cool.

I like active hobbies.

Used to do motorsports. Don't want to break my daily driver now that I am going to be a student FOREVER.

Now I lift "heavy" weights.

(only because my lifting coach bench pressed 500 raw :meanie:)

I WISH I could commit to be a DDG, no way too much work given how far I am away and the competition level they expect.

Thales, awesome icon, made my evening--haha.

Staying up to snuff with current events, weight lifting, skiing (cannot afford anymore), blogging and refining my public speaking skills. I miss skiing 🙁

My hobbies are cooking, martial arts, exercise, and computers.

I do wood working... design and build tables, shelving, wall decor, you name it. A lot of fun and it'll be fun to teach my son how to do it too when he gets older.

Oh, and I love hunting huge sea animals in the Atlantic in my little row boat when I have time. Sort of like Old Man and the Sea. That was actually written about me, if y'all didn't know........... 😉

I built me a trebuchet in my back yard once upon a time. It was pretty awesome, but I've never had the guts to go at it in armor.

in-progress to write essays about all the subjects that were of my interest.
playing scrapbook with my siblings.
....yeah & talking subjects with my friend.

Baking! Mostly cupcakes (surprise!) I love trying new recipes
Blogging
Couponing (More of an addiction, I guess)
Walking the dog
My kids! (Their stuff takes up a lot of time so if I look at it like a hobby it won't seem like so much work lol)
