I know this sounds kinda random BUT I really need your guys'/gals' thoughts on this. I suffer from hyperhydrosis, in other words when I'm nervous my face gets drenched in sweat. Now do you think it's wise to tell those that are interviewing me of my condition? This way they don't think I'm sweating because I'm lying or something weird. Or will they just figure it out on their own?
I know this sounds odd and yucky but get over it and tell me what u think. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I wouldn't say anything. I would just do lots of practice interviews, with mean friends, and also practice meditating so that you can click to a zen state when you are at the interview. (I'm being serious.) Don't view the interview as an antagonistic situation--see it just as a getting-to-know you session.

You know there's medication for this, don't you? I've never heard of using it on the face, but check with your doctor. You might be able to make the problem go away.

If the medication is not an option, I don't think they'll figure it out on their own, so I think you're going to have to clue them in. Might even be better to write a letter so it will be in the file, and they'll already know it before they meet you (for open file interviews anyway).

I Have a terrible fear that I'm going to faint at an interview

Hey DoHzA,

I'm gonna have to agree with SMW on this one. I would definately tell them. Who knows, this could even work in your favor, it would sure give you and your interviewer something interesting to talk about and your interviewer would never forget who you were..."Oh yeah, I remember DoHzA, the incredibly fabulous SWEATY kid! Yeah, they're in!" Good luck to you; hope that everything works out for the best! :D Ciao.

Propranolol - 10 to 20 mg. Blocks adrenaline receptors so you won't sweat, flush, shake or whatever it is you normally do when you're nervous. Many performance artists or public speakers take it before engagements. Ask your doctor for some.

IMO, you're interviewers will assume you are sweating b/c you are nervous. That is not a terrible thing, but you won't come across as very self-assured.

I think vkrn's meditation idea is great for the long run, but it takes a lot of practice to be able to 'click into the zen state' during a stressful situation. So while you work on that, get some propranolol!

Definitely tell them--it can't hurt you to be honest. Interviewers tend to think that every physiological response you have during an interview is due to nervousness. I sneezed several times during an interview in a dusty room and the interviewer was convinced that it was due to nerves.

They are so self-centered! :D

I feel the same way, But I dont think any body is going to bother me this year .

I have a close perosnal friend who does Acupuncture stuff....I believe that really helps. Look into it...each "session" will leave you calm for a week or so. Doesn't cost TOO much either.

Damn you guys are really helpful and compassionate!!!
I want to thank everyone who took the time to give their 2 cents. Your posts have led me to many possible ways that I can go about battling this condition. I think Odaban is the way I'm going to go. If anyone has experience w/ that one let me know what you think of it.
Thanks again you guys.
You guys/gals are great!

Hi. When I lived in San Diego for a few months last year, I kept hearing this commercial on radio about this Center for the Cure of Sweaty Palms (Orange County, I think). I swear to God I don't work for them or anything. I just kept hearing their commercial and it stuck in my head. Here is their website.
