I am posting on this thread and not specifically the KYCOM thread because I would like some honest feedback about KYCOM from anybody [students or any SDN people about the university]. Just got accepted into KYCOM and would like to know what people think of KYCOM? It seems like a great school with excellent faculty, curriculum, and is growing and expanding. However, the more I read people's views on this site, I find that people say KYCOM is not a good school or low ranked or tier school or one of the worst DO schools? I was wondering why people have come to this conclusion specifically? Sure the MCAT avg is 24, but the G.P.A's and everything else seem close to all the other DO schools? I just want to know why KYCOM has such a bad reputation generally on this site and is rated as a lower tier school? Is it because of a low board pass rate [not sure of the percentage], the school being only 16 years old and fairly new or something else? The school produces a ton of primary care physicians which is what I would like to be. This seems like a good school and one I look forward to attending. Generally, I just want some feedback on the school from anybody.

You got your answer right there... Many on SDN make judgment about schools based on stats and match alone without knowing anything else about them. If you think the school will be a good fit for you, go to that school and ignore what is beeind said on SDN.

I am posting on this thread and not specifically the KYCOM thread because.......

A lot of SDNers say KYCOM has poor clinical rotations (i.e. rural & small community clinics), below average COMLEX scores, etc... I'm sure you've seen it, but here is the match list for 2009-2011 for KYCOM: http://www.scribd.com/doc/90058310/KYCOM-2009-2011-Residency-Placements-Summary-Info-2

All in all, go to a school you know you'll be happy at and will succeed. so what you got drafted to the Houston Astros, you're still in the big leagues! just make sure you rock your boards.

I agree with the above. Go where you are going to succeed, and if it is your only acceptance, it is the best school in the world. When I applied, the problem with KYCOM was that, as an applicant, you see the low averages, the below average COMLEX, rumors of poor rotations, a new school, and up until last year, I was under the impression that KYCOM refused to release their match lists and when students would ask, they would be jerked around. I did not apply to KYCOM and this is primarily the voice of a few students that did apply, definitely not the majority, so use it how you want. When I applied, KYCOM was getting torched on here and they may have gotten their act together since then and it may be fine. it is still probably a good school.
