I screwed up my writing section big time; terrible time management resulting in an L. I am a decent writer, and I think my English grades/ personal statement/ 12 on VR reflect that.

So should I be worried about not getting interviews, or at least prepare to explain myself?

FYI 3.56 cgpa, 3.35sgpa MCAT 12VR 8PS 9BS

no one gives a s*** about the writing portion lol as long as your PS is good they wont think your a bad writer

Granted this is advice from pre-med people, but I would have to agree with drshark here.

i've read a student asking an adcom during an interview about writing score who shrugged it off as completely insignificant.

i am completely convinced that nobody gives a crap about writing.

There's a reason why medical schools don't report the MCAT writing scores when they list their MCAT averages. Also there is a reason why the writing section is going away next year.

No one cares.

They get your PS and your secondaries. That's enough to determine your writing skill.

A guy who shadows the same DO I do got a 37n or o or something seemingly lopsided like that and was stressing out after it. He asked the doc if he needed to retake and the doc told him to run with it., no one cares etc. I don't know his other stats but he did ace the ps part of it and got multiple md and do acceptances in the end. So long story short, no one cares about the letter, your what, 29, with the gpa should make you competitive even though I didn't do your LizzyM score.

I know several people with <30 and N's and M's on their writing sections and they are in med school right now with no problem.

+1 to everyone saying writing score doesn't matter. However, L is the lowest score I've seen or heard of (it's scored J-T, right?). I think you should be more worried about the 8 on PS than the L on writing.

so basically the writing is scored on a 12 point scale.. 6 points per essay, so if u relate it back to the number scale then you got a 2, because 2 letters from J is L... so you got 1 point per essay i'm assuming. Doesn't seem like they would ever give 0 points so idk how a J or K is possible...

(a mcat writing expert told me about the unknown scale)

Also, the writing score grade is largely based on your ability to follow instructions. My writing skills haven't improved since the MCAT I took in 2010, but my writing score went from an M to a Q and the only thing I did differently was adhere to the format requested.

On the schools that actually offered me interviews, nobody ever asked me about my lousy M writing score. Two did mention my numeric composite score, but they completely bypassed the writing section.

And holy crap with a 12 in VR I hope you are applying to some MD schools as well. Check out the first page of the Tulane 2012-2013 thread, you may be pleasantly surprised.
