Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post (though I am sure it will not be my last). I am curious as to what your thoughts are about a lab coordinator position. In your opinion (or experience), is this considered valuable experience for someone who is planning on applying to graduate school in clinical psychology?

As someone with a fair amount of research experience, would it be best to work as a lab coordinator or continue gaining research experience as an RA?

I'd imagine that a lab coordinator position would be seen as evidence of leadership ability and capacity to function independently, both of which are desirable grad student qualities. Beyond that, as a coordinator, you might have an even greater chance of getting your name on publications, which never hurts.

However, this advantage would be tempered if the areas of research are markedly different. Should that be the case, I'd recommend you stick with the area you hope to study in grad school.
