To those who have taken the psych shelf,

Are the A+L questions similar to the ones on the shelf? (easier, harder, etc.)
I finished pre-test, and was wondering if the A+L book is worth it. Would case files be a better use of my time? I have 2 weeks left to prepare for this exam.

IMHO, best use of time for psych shelf: First Aid Psych > Case Files> A&L/Pretest

So on that note, I'd recommend you read FA Psych now if you haven't. Then most definitely if you have time, go through case files. A&L was solid b/c it covers a lot of ground (dont do the chapter on freud and erikson ...not important). I used these resources (actually only finished 3/4th of FA Psych) and got 98. Hope that helps.

I would say case files is the best use of your time, and isn't painful to get through.

I used Lange and have mixed feelings about it. There were a lot of errors in questions (Patient has had symptoms for 4 weeks and the diagnosis is schizophrenia) and a lot of questions asked about asinine statistics and the answer would be "one study found that the %age is xxx). But at the same time Lange's description of Rett's disorder in the question was almost identical to the shelf.

I would say just do the chapters on differential diagnosis (7), child psych (2), and the two practice tests (8 and 9). The pharm chapter was completely overkill.

I just took the exam Friday so I don't know what I got yet.
