Hi All

I'm looking to get a new laptop that'll hopefully last me throughout my whole rads residency but just wanted to find out if there's any particular laptop specifications I should keep in mind.
Have you found that the laptop needs to be more powerful (with regards to processor speed and/or memory) b/c of the radiology images or videos that may need to viewed on it?

Thanks for the advice

Not really.

You can have any kind of laptop. And these days most of them have similar features.

U is dumb.

You sure you want to go into radiology?

I would recommend something somewhat portable as you don't want to be lugging around a brick. I'd go with an i7 CPU, at least 8 GB of RAM, an SSD hard drive, and a standalone graphics card. That should be good for awhile. Maybe something with HDMI output for presentations.

Intel should be releasing Haswell architecture relatively soon (probably in 3rd quarter). May be worth waiting for that. Better energy management and what not.

I prefer off board DAC/Amps if you're a music person. If going with SSD, then USB 3 could be useful for external drives if you have lots of music/photos/movies/whatever.

I find 13 inch great for mobility, but 15 inch ideal screen real estate without being too hefty.

Another option is to get a nice upgradeable desktop and have a beater laptop for work stuff.
