what is a good weight for a laptop that you have to carry around a lot? Although keep in mind that i do not want a microscopic laptop. What is an average weight that pharmacy students buy?

I know how heavy things can get so weight is my top concern.

5 lbs is pretty good.

Dell - Latitudes are light enough. But lighter Laptops tend to have lighter and smaller batteries.. short life = 2 hours or so.

5 is good. I used to have a 7.5lb Toshiba one-- 😱 I'm not a walking advertisement, but I highly recommend the Gateway 3018 GZ because of my excellent experience with it so far, ultrathin, light, mobile...ultrabright widescreen technology (14" widescreen display), 5.2 lbs, 60gb, excellent customer service. You can get it for under $900 if you find a good sale.

Try not to exceed 6 lbs in weight. I had a Dell Inspiron 8200 that probably weighed close to 8 lbs with both batteries in place. That was heavy enough to make me not take it to school most of the time. If your laptop weighs too much, you'll end up leaving it at home...at which point you ought to consider getting a desktop computer instead 😉
