I've heard that laptops are required in pharm schools. Is this true? Also, I heard that UOP's tuition includes a laptop so everyone has the same one. Is this true?

I'm asking because I'm debating whether to buy one now or to just wait until I start pharm school.

Some schools seem to be requiring certain laptops while others just want certain software and hardware capabilities regardless of the computer. Most do, however, state that having a computer will make your life far easier. Check with your school. Some of the ones that require certain models can even work it into your aid.

PS-I currently have a 2 year old dell laptop and it performs pretty well. Unfortunately, it weighs a TON so I am hoping I don't have to bring it to campus often.

I'm not sure if all pharmacy schools require laptops, but UOP does.
UOP does require that all pharmacy students have the same laptop. Actually, they tell us not to purchase a laptop until we go to orientation, so they tell us what particular model they want us to get and stuff. We can either buy the laptop ourselves, or we can buy it through the school. If we buy it through the school, I think it would be taken into account for the tuition.
I actually got a laptop for Christmas 5 months ago, prior to finding out that I got into UOP. Now I don't know what to do with it since I'll need a different model at UOP. 🙂 Oh well...

UF requires a laptop, but you will never use it in class. I'm sorry I bought one.

Texas Tech requires one, but they have a sweet deal with Dell so I got a killer laptop (d820 loaded) for under 2K with a 4 year complete care warranty 👍

Wingate also requires one and we use it everyday in every class. The school is very new and high tech and well integrated, even pop quizzes are taken online.

I highly recommend http://www.tigerdirect.com for computer stuff. I've been buying from them for a decade and they have the best customer service in the world if there's any problem.

Newegg.com is also an excellent site for computer stuff, along the same lines as tiger direct, but generally with better prices

I was actually just going to say that newegg has always been great to me. I always run a bizrate.com or pricegrabber.com search and see which of the two companies has the best prices and reviews.

probably the best thing to do to find out is call their IT department or someone in admissions to find out who to talk to. At tech they had a little seminar for us about the laptops and netowork stuff at the interview so we would know who to talk to.
