When I visited the school, I was given a tour to "Larry Rosenthal Institute for Aesthetic Dentistry". And there were business men dressing up in nice suite waiting in the lobby. I am just wondering what can NYU students do in there? Is cosmetic dentistry integrated in the curriculum? thanks🙂

I haven't seen it in my first semester. I believe it's mostly clinical research. Maybe you do a clinic rotation or two in there? I wouldn't come to NYU just because of the Rosenthal Institute though...

"Cosmetic dentistry" is dentistry. Not that dentists are cosmetologists -- but what's the point of placing a veneer if it's not going to look good? Why use composite over amalgam if it has a higher failure rate? It's integrated into the curriculum insofar as your work should look good and you will treat patients' aesthetic complaints. We also get trained on invisalign if that's your cup of tea.

As a D1 or D2, you can only volunteer in the clinic. As a D3, I believe you do a rotation in the aesthetic clinic just as you do rotations in ortho, endo, oms, etc. Leading into your 4th year, you can apply to the aesthetic honors program. If you get accepted, you will spend one entire day each week doing nothing but aesthetic cases in addition to your normal clinical responsibilities. The program only accepts 10 or so applicants and there are typically around 40 that apply. Upon graduation, you receive an honor's distinction with your degree and many have been offered very nice positions. Sometimes the program accepts more then 10, but they do not get the distinction upon graduation. They DO get all the experienc as the other applicants though.

ive done veneer cases down there.. ive seen other d3 classmates in there doin crowns, inlays, onlays, other esthetic work.

so definitely.. nyu students work in there.

and the faculty are world-class, individuals..(jsut have to give a shout-out👍) o. and those nice suit guys.. probably tehre for seminar which is also located in there.

its funny because they give you a tour of that place when u interview, its pretty high tech and nice, but for the first 2 years your thrown into saklad or Nagel which are just 2 big rooms with nothing but boring walls. Also when you tour NYU for your interview, ask the nice tour guide can you plz show me the library, i would love to see the expression on your faces when your shown the library 😉 lol.

actually, I asked the tour guide where is the library, and she told me there is no library in the dental school 😎

Oh yea.. the library... about the library.. Its a really nice library. One problem -- ITS NOT IN THE SAME BUILDING. But really, its a nice new library. Nice and cozy too.

as one nyu student stated, "its the most depressing place i have set foot in" 😎

Larry Rosenthal is a quack. All of the best known faculty at UNC talk about him as a joke. Yes, he's made lots of money, but made much of it doing unnecessary procedures (ie- veneers on patients who would be far better served with orthodontic movement to correct problems). EVERY dentist is an aesthetic dentist. You don't need a "special" center or training to make you one. Yes, he gave money for a pretty center, but he needs to get over himself.

To the OP- you will get a decent education at NYU. You don't need or probably even want to have classes with him.

Our library is in the VA hospital across the street. However, you also have access to the med school library a few streets over and the undergrad library,Bobst, which is *HUGE* and really close.

With all due respect to your low opinion of Larry Rosenthal, we've all heard the rumors about him, but I don't think that all dentists or patients agree with your assessment.

Regardless, are you saying that students cannot take classes with Dr. Rosenthal?
