Hi there.

I have been attending to biochemistry class for the recommendation/required prerequisites. However, things went no good and I'm going to drop the class bc I think ill get a bad grade at the end. (Biochem is so hard during summer session.. impossible..)

So my questions is.. is it REQUIRED REQUIRED to take those classes when the website says it is required?

If I do not have the 'biochemistry' class for prerequisites, is it still worth applying?

is there any chance to get in/ accepted for interview without one prerequisite class? (biochem)

Ill appreciate it guys. Thank you very much.

Hi JinTaek,

I'm sorry to hear that your biochem class wasn't going smoothly. Biochem is a hard class, and I'm sure during the summer must be near impossible.

You can always contact the schools individually, but I am pretty confident all with that requirement are going to advise that you take it. You don't need to have all your pre-reqs finished before you apply (or even before you are invited for an interview), but you should at least have a plan when you intend to take it. Most schools require all pre-reqs to be done the summer before you start. You have a year to complete the class, so find a time to be able to focus and do well!

Good luck!

so is that means that I can go to next year spring semester to take courses for prerequisites? (after submitting applications?)

thank you very much kleronomia

You can take it any time within the next year as long as you finish the class before Fall 2014, because you're the entering class of Fall 2014. That's what most schools have as their policy. you don't have to be done with all your prerequisites when you apply, just indicate that you plan on taking the class, and it has to be taken before you start the optometry program.

do you think they will tell me if Im declined or not before i take the course? I'm thinking applying on september

Often, some schools keep your file open (i.e. do not reject you until the season closes), so you may not hear until much later. Some other schools may send their rejection notifications earlier, like if you do not meet their overall benchmarks.

Should you be accepted before you complete that requirement, you may be offered conditional acceptance, meaning that you will not be able to begin their program unless you fulfill their specification (in your case, pass biochem).
