My stats:
White male, 28MCAT 3.75 sGPA 3.81cGPA
EC's: Several clinical and volunteer activities over 2 years
Standout EC: Was selected to go on a research expedition to antarctica and live on an isolated station there for a semester
LOTR: 1MD letter, sever school letters

I am in my last semester and I am deciding how best to fill up the spare time I have. I will be applying to DO schools, but I lack a DO letter of recommendation.
So do I:
Try and find a DO to shadow so that I can get my DO LOR even though most of the DO schools only 'strongly recommend a DO letter"

or

Try and find a research opportunity around campus (wont publish) to keep me busy, though I will only be participating in it for a semester

take a light load and improve your mcat score, because a 28 sucks for MD schools.

👍

Of your two options, find a DO. There is no point in doing one semester's worth of research....absolutely none unless you really love the bench (or whatever kind of research you would be doing). Your time can be better spent elsewhere.

Retake the MCAT, find a DO, shadow maybe?, continue your activities, and enjoy the rest of your college experience!!! Have a little fun. Pick up a new hobby. Go to a restaurant you've never tried. Read a new book.

I am in my last semester and I am deciding how best to fill up the spare time I have. I will be applying to both MD and DO schools, but I lack a DO letter of recommendation. Also, my first choice school will me my state school of Nevada (average MCAT 30, average GPA 3.6).

Have you considered retaking the MCAT?

I'd also suggest retaking, but I bet if you applied smartly with your current stats you'd have >5+ DO acceptances and a couple MD acceptances too.

A 34 isn't necessary to go to Nevada. Neither is a 32.
