Late applicants still waiting for interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They're still coming in even before the break. I thought I was finished last week with my Georgetown invite, but I just got an MSTP invite for Colorado today.

Someone else on SDN got a JHop invite today, too.

I turned the secondary in Oct 14th, but my letters were not in and marked complete until Nov 1st, then I got the invite Nov 29th. They scheduled my interview Dec 7th for this week.

Good luck with getting a UCLA interview!

Thank you. UCLA status page doesn't seem to show when an application is complete, it only shows when secondary was turned in. Could you elaborate on what you mean by 'marked complete?'

I hope your interview goes well!

Just that on the status page it said everything was received. I never got an email or anything saying "complete".

But just a pointer, I called UCI b/c my letters were there for about 2.5 weeks on Virtual Evals and they had not been marked as received, and the lady was very nice and said students need to call to let them know letters are available via virtual evals, they dont automatically know. two minutes later it was marked received!

do they need the transcript too or just the supplemental info and LORs?

I have been complete since mid october...NOTHING YET! Should I be nervous? I only have a "hold" from GWU.

this thread was supposed to be for slackers, not for a bunch of wannabes with MCAT scores ranging from 37-43! damn you!

I COMPLETELY AGREE>.>>This is stressing me out that all of you guys with 35 and above on your MCAT are worried about being complete late. I was complete in October because of September release of MCAT....several rejections and no interviews yet out of 16 schools. 3.8 Ivy Undergrad, 3.7 Science GPA Ivy Post Bacc program, 30 MCAT. Please somebody write in with average MCAT scores....Hey...Does anyone know why so much weight is put on a 5 hour exam over the hundreds and hundreds of hours we all put into getting high GPAs???????? It's Crazy.

i find it funny that, before my MCAT, i would complain that it's just a stupid 5 hour test that means nothing...until i did well on it, now i can't say enough good things about it! seriously though, i like to think that schools kinda look at GPA and MCAT scores differently depending on the person...i mean, i wish i had hundreds and hundreds of hours to put into my GPA, but i put a lot of that time into other things that were very important to me, and so i just devoted a summer to MCAT studying...while those with high GPA's should be equally rewarded for achieving that and have that take precedence over their MCAT score.

in any case, this thread is very reassuring...i felt so out of the loop when i found SDN, it's nice to know not EVERYONE applied on like...june 5th...i think i vomit every time i look at MDapplicants and see "amcas primary submitted june 'n'....verified june 'n+1'!!!!!"

:barf: indeed

i finished all secondaries by early november and got 3 interviews almost immediately. havent heard anything anywhere else for about a month now tho..any of you other guys in a similar situation? or were your invites spread evenly?

anumama -
i should have clarified. mich was an auto invite because i did well on my mcat, and case was because the director of admissions had come to my school to talk about case and i met him, and he checked on the status of my app which i think was the reason why my application got seen so quickly. so really... we all just need to personally meet the directors!
the fact remains.. i still have 5 secondaries to send in, and there are another 15 schools that i haven't heard from at all.

haha, I'm in exactly the same situation as you wing14. As a matter of fact, our apps look exactly the same...same schools....late verification....3 interviews, two of which are from the same places. When are you interviewing at Michigan? Maybe we even scheduled the same interview day.
🙂

To you, the MCAT is just a 5 hour test. To me, MCAT was the cumulation of hundreds of hours of studying. It is no different than my GPA because I demonstrated that I can competently utilize the knowledge that I acquired in school.
By your standards, the GPA is just the cumulation of a lot of exams too since homework counts for very little in college.

haha, it looks like we already got the same rejection too. i actually got the baylor and michigan invites for the same day(this friday), so i rescheduled michigan to jan 11th (baylor is a way shorter trip, and friday is right in the middle of my finals). how about you?

You and me both!! Yeah!! Let's celebrate! Seriously, three interviews is good. I got three right away and not a peep from the other schools (except one rejection - ugh). So don't worry, at least you HAVE interviews. If they responded immediately, you obviously got their attention.

Think positive. Good luck. I just had my second interview today, and it was hellish. The woman GRILLED me and insulted my research. Not encouraging, but I'm trying not to overanalyze. Too many people on SDN have said their worst interview was at the school they were accepted at. So who knows. It's a crapshoot.

I have a 31R MCAT and a 3.44 GPA. Most of my secondaries were completed in the beginning of November. I have heard back form 4 schools (out of 19) and have been offered 4 interviews. Hope is not lost.

hrw212, you have a 43...? 😱

i vaguely remember reading something about only a few people per test achieve that score, if at all. You must be one of those few in the entire nation..

i'm really really curious as to what it takes to score that kind of score in MCAT..

WOW, nice interview list. Envious!!! 😉

Thank you. These last three weeks have been unreal to say the least. I went from the lowest of lows to my current euphoric state. I think my letters of recommendation had a lot to do with this, they were VERY strong (I got to read 4 out of the 5). Good luck with your app.

A 43 isn't very different from a 41. You just need to get 3-4 more questions right, which could happen by chance, and does.

I love this thread!!
I hope this provides a little hope for you LATER applicants like me. I took the August MCAT which pushed everything back a bit...I was complete at most school Nov 1st, (secondaries were in Sept-Oct but letters of rec were not!)

I received 9 interviews so far (three of which came last week and this week!) and one rejection from Georgetown.
I got accepted to my first school two days ago!!! (Carver College in Iowa!)
I have been on 3 interviews so far (U of Michigan, Iowa, MSU) and going to UCLA tomorrow...I am a Cali resident and went to a UC. (applied to 32 schools, b/c I am paranoid!)

I have a 32S MCAT and an steep upwardly bound GPA (3.7-3.9 last 2.5 years) but overall is lower than that. And good EC's including a publication.

Don't give up hope, its still relatively early. For those hearing back from U of M today, good luck!!!!

Congrats on getting into Iowa! I am hoping to hear from them soon, and I feel like I will get accepted (crossing my fingers). It's such a great school. Maybe I will see you in class next year.

I just finished submitting secondaries to my state schools (Florida) within the past week and a half. I am also applying to some osteopathic schools and I have not finished those secondaries. I was happily surprised to receive my first interview today and no I do not have spectacular stats. I have a 3.74 GPA 3.65 science GPA and a 31Q on my MCAT. So there is hope and submitting late is not a death sentence.

Thanks!
Iowa is a great school--good luck with getting in. DId you interview on Dec 7th by any chance? I know a few people who did. I was on Nov 16.

:luck:

Congrats to everyone who's gotten interview invites! It's been a rather deafening silence on this end, I'm afraid. I mean, aside from the army, nutrition, and podiatry spam.😳

Me too man. Me too. I have a feeling I'm going to be waiting a long while for a whole bunch of thin envelopes. 🙁

Yes, I am afraid of this as well. If I don't make it in this cycle, I am going to retake the MCAT (33Q the first time and I *know* I can do better), doing what Vihsadas suggested: spend a couple months on the MCAT alone. The prospect of this is rather depressing, though. I really don't want to waste all that time just to take a test that is really not enriching at all to my life, so I am hoping for an acceptance.

But, I will do what it takes for this next go around. I think if I can nail 36+ and get my app in a bit earlier, I think I can get a bit more love. Still too early to say, though, as I have not been complete for too long at many schools. I have made it through several competitive secondary screens, so we'll see what happens.

Wow Im impressed with everyone getting invites so quickly even after submitting late. Im starting to think there is a glaring red flag on my app cause so far Im sol, as Im sure some of you know from all of my complaining.

i find it hilarious that even though i know i'm not likely to receive an interview invite until january at the earliest, i still check these boards and my email about once every 5 minutes, just in case i'm some sort of anomaly or something....anyone feel the same way?

Fellow Canadian...nice! Nice app man, You have a solid shot at a lot of canadian schools. Are you an ON resident, ottawa centered?

I, on the other hand, am more or less disqualified from every canadian medical school except McGill (QC resident).

Thanks!

I interviewed on Nov. 28th. I hope I hear back before March. I think the admissions committee is supposed to meet again next week.

yeah the high GPA cutoffs in Canada kinda suck! your MCAT/ec's will get you in somewhere though.

I'm not from around ottawa, so I can basically count that school out...my weighted GPA is definitely not high enough to meet their crazy cutoff. we'll see about other schools though!

Good luck!

Um, has anyone who had an application complete (and I mean when their LORs AND secondaries were handed in... not just secondaries, that doesn't count) on October 25th or later heard from any of the following schools about interviews? And if so, could you tell me how long you waited and when you were complete there?

Cornell
Albert Einstein
NYU
Mt. Sinai
Loyola
Northwestern
Tufts
BU
Jefferson
Stanford
Tulane

You can PM me if you want. But any info would be useful. Thanks.

Loyola I was complete around 11/1, and I called them and they told me I'd been reviewed once, not given an interview, then set to be reviewed again in Jan. I guess a lot of people are hearing that. Call them on Thursday.

Tulane, I was complete beginning of October, and I still get my Friday emails.

Good luck. Applying late is stressful..........

I was complete at Albert Einstein according to them on Nov 14th, although everything was turned in and accessible on Nov 1st, then got the invite to interview Nov 28th for February 1st. I applied to most of the schools on your list, and other than AECOM, not a word!

good luck!🙂

...don't be curious. All you have to do is cheat!😉

I've been sporadically completing secondaries ranging from September to the present (Duke is soooo hard). As my profile shows, I've had quite a few interviews, some rejections, but the majority of top-choicers haven't told me anything yet!

If there is one thing I've learned, its that the process really is a crapshoot. We've all dedicated years of our lives to making our applications look great, and as a result--they all look pretty damn good. I still don't know what schools want from us to set us apart from everyone else. Keep the faith people, because I just interviewed last week at WashU and one of my interviewers noted, "Wow, you're interviewing pretty early in the cycle."

My primary app was complete the end of August, but my Committee Letter didn't go out until the 1st week of Nov. So far I have 1 rejection and 4 interviews! :luck:

Zilch here still. 2 rejections though, yay!!

I've decided that I'm starting up a 'wall of shame'. Every rejection letter I get is going on that wall. Above them all I have the words 'persistence' in big bold letters. Just a little something make sure I keep my ass in gear! hehe. :meanie:

hey!! i was soo stressed about being late--(and i still have like 7 apps to do ASAP due this month but that i have not yet completed) and was almost just going to give up in november...but if i had i wouldnt have gotten these interviews:

CCLM complete 11/4 invite 12/12
wayne state complete 11/27 invite today! =) 12/17
ucla drew (mailed out 11/20) invite 11/28

im posting this cuz when i was stressed about being late most of the posts i saw were discouraging and i got really scared--so i hope this can be relevant for someone else to just DO it basically (sorry if cheesy)

I've been complete since September at some schools and heard nothing; complete at 1 school since October and heard nothing; and recently complete at another school (from which I have obviously also not heard anything). I've only got 1 invite so far, and I'm very thankful for it, but I would really like more options and I feel like time is running out! Argh, so nervous. I hope I get another invite before offices close for the holidays. 🙁

Hang in there people!! It is not over yet!! I just checked my status at Drexel and apparently they want to interview me!! 🙂 I was complete there in mid November.

I have been complete since mid october...NOTHING YET! Should I be nervous? I only have a "hold" from GWU.

I am pretty much in teh same boat...I have had one interview but was put on waitlist.

Hang in there.🙂 I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Is it acceptable to call schools if you haven't heard anything?

NYU complete 11/12/07 Int 11/29/07
Mt. Sinai complete 12/9/07 Int 12/17/07
BU complete 11/10/07 rejected 12/17/07

There is hope man. This whole applying late "hurts your chances" is B.S. If the schools want you they will take you no matter when you apply (as long as you turn it in before the required deadlines). Good luck.

Is it acceptable to call schools if you haven't heard anything?

In my experience, I think it helps to call schools when you haven't heard from them. It shows that you're interested in them. I've been asking politely: "I was wondering if everything is ok with my application. (-and sometimes they take your AMCAS ID number and look it up right at that time-). Also, would it help if I send a letter of interest to your school?" I don't think it will hurt, it can only help, at least IMO.

Thanks,
I guess I will call up a few schools tomorrow and find out more information.

I called up Drexel this morning, they said my file has not been reviewed yet. I was complete since sept 12, does that make any sense?
