Hey guys,

I took the MCAT last year, graduated undergrad in May, and have been preparing for the September 2nd MCAT. I didn't get admitted last year with a very poor MCAT (low 20s). I already submitted my AACOMAS application, but am deciding on whether I want to submit my AMCAS application or not because I'm not too sure if I will hit a 31+. If I were to submit the AMCAS application now and indicate that I am taking the MCAT in September, am I too late in the cycle to even have a chance??

Any help would be great!

It depends on your GPA. Nothing is too late if you have a really good GPA and MCAT score (as long as it's not a week or two before the deadline). What's your cGPA/sciGPA and what are you getting on your practice AAMCs?

Well my GPA isn't very high -- 3.55cgpa and 3.45sgpa. I'm averaging 30-32 on all of the practice AAMCs, so I'm hoping that's what I end up with. Im hoping that's good enough for DO but wondering if it's worth it got me to file AMCAS this late..?

Hmm 3.55 is acceptable.. and 3.45 is acceptable too imo, although others might disagree. I think if you can pull off a 30-32 on your MCAT, then it is definitely worth it to apply this cycle. Tread lightly though. You should apply very broadly and to a lot of schools (i.e. >15), and definitely to your state schools. You should submit your AMCAS asap so it is verified by the time you take your exam and you can work on secondaries until your score is received. Also make sure your ECs are good and your essays are top notch. Good luck.

Yes, too late. Your MCAT score won't be available until mid October. Total waste of time and money to apply that late. In your shoes I'd close the AACOMAS app unless you'd honestly be happy w/DO without having tried for MD.

Get your ducks in a row for a solid, well-reviewed app on June 1 2012.

Best of luck to you.

So you think that I would have a decent shot at DO schools with my MCAT coming in that late?

My full application is great, including EC's and essays. The only negative aspect of my application is my MCAT, and the fact that it is somewhat late in the cycle...

Don't bother applying MD this year. I took the sept 2 MCAT last year and the only schools interested in me were full by the time they got around to offering me an interview...in March. "Better late than never" does not apply to med school apps.

Wait until next cycle.
