Hello SDN users,
I just got my mcat score, 25 P :( I have a cGPA 3.88 and sGPA 4.0. All my ECs look good. I am trying to decided whether to retake in july 8th, but I am confused about the application process. Can I complete the application and submit it by the end of may and put 2nd score pending? If my 2nd score comes in August 8th, would I still be considered for this cycle? Is that a good idea, considering my GPA? Any information would be helpful and appreciated.

Brian

One cannot submit the AMCAS application until the first week of June. There is a spot to check off a future MCAT take date. If the score arrives August 8, you'd still be in the running for this cycle. Considering your excellent GPAs, if you got a MCAT score to match them, good ECs, strong LORs, then your application would still get attention.

You have no choice but to retake. A VS of 5 will kill your application. The MCAT Discussions Forum has some good tips on how to raise Verbal Score.

OK,
but if I submit my application lets say mid June, will they look at it and put it aside until my score comes in? Is there an option on the application that allows me to put second score pending?

Thank You

If you check the future MCAT box, they will hold the application until the second score comes in before considering your application. If I were you, I would initially submit to only one school so the verification process is initiated. When the score comes back, if it is competitive, you can add more schools (or not). Newly added schools get the entire application within one business day and you won't have to worry about being prematurely rejected based on the old MCAT score (not that they will, but you'd worry just the same). If the second test score isn't what you'd hoped, you will save the fees for the additional schools.

I wouldn't even submit an app unless I could be convinced I could a 8 on my verbal...

With a 5 you have an awful long way to go.
