Anyone who applied to medical schools near their deadlines heard anything about interview/rejections? Do most schools just take the check out of the envelope and toss the application, like a kid eating his dessert and throwing away his lunch, or do they actually take deadline applications seriously? I have this sneaking suspiscion that I pissed away a lot of money and I didn't even get a lap dance. Very cool 👎

Hi! I am in the same boat and am fearing that, to a certain extent, you may be right. I dont think all the schools do this but many do (i.e the school's that say they have stopped sending invites). It seems like such a violation to have a deadline that means nothing. I was complete at alot of places near/on deadline and didnt think it would be so big a deal, but it is definetly is a big deal. I have a few invites, but these are not to schools i particularly want to attend with the exception of UPitt. I reckon we'll hear stuff in the next couple weeks, good or bad.

I hope so, cause sitting on my thumbs and waiting is getting old. At this point, a rejection letter would be better than silence, as I'd stop wearing out keys to my mailbox and would at least get some closure. Jeebus, I sound like I'm grieving over here

it's the same for me; you can go back and read some of my posts and you'll understand. But now I just smile; i guess no news is better than bad news, but it sucks when you can feel it comming; what makes it worse is that i have the goods to compete at the top schools, but at a very late stage in the game I dont know if I can stack up at the top places; well, ill see soon

This is from SDN posts, so take it with a grain of salt... Apparently the rolling admissions process is not so rolling as we are led to believe. The people who applied early with a mediocre, though acceptable application, are often put on waitlists and only the stellar applicants get accepted straight off. Schools do this b/c they know that additional stellar applicants will come in later in the cycle and they want to have openings available for them. So, if you are truly a highly competitive applicant, applying late is not as much a disadvantage than if you are a late so-so applicant. At least that's what I tell myself when the weeping starts, as I am a late applicant as well.

One of my friends submitted his applications right before all the deadlines. He just started receiving interviews from schools. So hopefully y'all will hear back really soon :luck:

I agree with the previous poster. If the medical school believes you are the type of applicant they're looking for, they will waste no time asking you back for an interview.

I've been complete at several schools since November and have heard nothing. However, at the last minute , I decided to submit an additional secondary on the day it was due (Dec 15.) Surprisingly, the school got back to me after Christmas to schedule an interview in January.

There's still hope!

Hey, that's great news Nina! You must have really impressed them for such a quick turnaround 🙂

I think you mean "sitting on your hands" because sitting on a thumb is a whole different issue.

I love being right all the time! Literally minutes after I wrote this, I got an AECOM interview invite.

I'm afraid I didn't... I really wanted to get the physical pain of not hearing anything across in my post. I imagine that sitting on a thumb, let alone two, is no picnic, just like this process

 Good point! I've been looking for a way to describe that.

Interestingly, the day after I started bitching on this thread, Drexel invited me for an interview. I guess the sun shines even on a dog's ass once in awhile? Good luck to my fellow procrastinators
