I'm applying this year and have a late application. Could I volunteer from now till when I interview and have it count towards anything?

what do you mean by "late"?

Do you mean secondaries in by Sept/Oct? or AMCAS just recently submitted?

It depends on what the EC is and what is already on your app.

amcas app was sent out mid october. secondaries were already in. I only have 100 hours volunteer work and was wondering if I could volun
teer at a local hospital from now until a possible interview invite. Would that help my chances of getting accepted this year?

A lot of other factors come into play during this whole process.
Whether or not you get an acceptance depends on your MCAT, GPA, ECs, LORS, Essays, PS, etc.

First off, your app is rather late and based on what you are telling me so far, you only have 100 hours of volunteer work? Any other ECs? You are just starting clinical experience?

What about your MCAT and GPA?

Also, your chances of acceptance can depend on the schools you are applying to.

Schools will see what your true motivation is. Not to help but just to get into med school.

Agree with J DUB. You're trying to volunteer at the last minute to boost your app, and it shows. Especially with your late submission. Start volunteering in case you have to reapply, but don't send it in to med schools this cycle. IMO.

The challenge for you will be getting the interview. Get the clinical experience going again for a few months, then let schools know after the winter break what you've been doing, in the hope they might be moved to offer the interview. Keep acquiring hours every week. If you need to reapply, you'll have a much stronger application by next June.

Pretty much get on it now and then hope and be ready for next yr.
