Hey guys, I was wondering how chances are for getting if you have late November/December interviews? I submitted aadsas 7/15; took DAT 7/28; and letters were sent 8/25 (i know it took forever). is there any chance for me getting interviews before december, I see on predents that some schools are giving out interviews like candy. I had a 20/20 DAT with 3.7 GPA and sGPA....any opinions...

November and December aren't late for interviews, don't worry, I had all of mine in February or later last year, and I got in just fine. Some schools haven't even started giving out interviews, I don't think Pitt has yet. With your stats you should have no problem, relax, and depending on how many schools you applied to, expect to get an interview in the next 2-4 weeks would be my guess.

western said they will start the interview from the late september although predent shows a couple of people who got interviews scheduled there already.

So if you applied late July/Early Aug and schools haven't started giving interviews yet (tufts, Pitt, Marquette, Temple, etc) is your app in the same overall status/boat as those who sub day 1? In other words can you still get that early interview, just as those who applied earlier.

Even if you submitted before the 1st interview, I think they still look at applications in chronological order.

I believe schools rely more on date of completion of all paperwork for that school than AADSAS mailing date and such. If one submitted early but did not take DAT until mid August application is not going to be complete and placed under review until everything is received. Some schools will review your appl with one LOE missing. Some schools might accept unofficially faxed late DAT numbers specially if candidate is attractive for that school.

its sort of a combination of the two...if you have a 23AA and a 3.9 GPA but are planning to apply next week...don't expect to get any pre-dec 1 interviews. but at the same time, if you have a 2.9 GPA and a 16AA and applied june 1st, you shouldn't also expect to get any pre-dec 1 (if any at all) interviews.

I'm sure there are a number of factors. I was just curious b/c for example, I had everything in by mid Aug (DAT, app, paid) and received the under review for Marquette 9/10, as i'm sure just as those who sub. July 1st did. So i guess i was hoping that I would be caught up so to speak.

I think that it is an advantage to turn everything in early... It seems as though the schools keep it in some sort of order as far as when you turned your things in. For example all of my aadsas was turned in June 2nd and mailed with the first batch. I just too the DAT on AUG 28 a friday and faxed my scores to some schools and had an interview invite by the next day.

Marquette rather stands out as an example of their admission practice.
In the past Marquette reviewed all appl received prior to Sep 1 and sent invites in big batches mid Sep- 200 for OOS and 100 instate. I am not sure if any additional invites were sent after that and school was practically filled by Dec 1.
Most schools do specify they review appl in the order they were received. Many will send invites in batches as they review them and some will trickle in few invites per week. BU and NUY sent their first big batch of invites couple of weeks ago to people who had application complete June- July and now working on those who applied in August...
Case is better example to understand why early applicants have better chances. Case starts interviewing as early as July so those people who applied in first batch get early invites. Case does reviewing the files in order so those who applied early, get their response early. It is Numbers school mainly- got GPA above certain point and DAT above certain point- got the interview. It is somewhat simplified view of course but main reason for rejections, which are sent early, are low GPA and to less extent DAT. Following the application cycle you could clearly see which AADSAS mailing batch they are reviewing and who is receiving responses. People who applied late in July and August did not get pre Dec interviews. I believe now people are scheduling for March. So come Dec 1 people who had pre Dec interviews will be in good shape as Case will probably send enough acceptances to fill the class. Those who receive acceptances by Dec 1 will have 45 days to decide whether to send their checks or not. Come Jan 15 or so second round of acceptances will follow. Since Case has been known to get over acceptance in the past I am thinking they will be sending those acceptances in the small batches until they have enough to fill the class. So more likely than not people who scheduled for interview in March will be interviewing for wait list spots.
I believe Nova, Indiana and Midwestern have already filled their pre Dec interview spots so anyone who is applying now is at disadvantage.

Hi:
Would anyone be able to predict when I might get my first interviews. My gpa is a 3.6, and I graduated from a top university. I got a AA/TS/PAT of 22/24/20 on my DATs when I took it on Aug 26. Most schools received my application in early august and my official DAT scores should arrive this week. I've worked at a dental office and have decent leadership and teaching experience. I did some community service, not alot, BUT I have no research experience. That's me in a few sentences. Thanks for all your help in advance.

It depends on which schools you appied to. Some schools interview early (especially state schools; University of Florida started interviews in July), whereas some schools haven't even starting giving out interview invitations (e.g. Tufts). I wouldn't worry too much about research experience unless you're applying to a research school like Harvard.

Have the dental schools received your DAT scores yet?

No, they haven't. ADA said it should be there this week. I just really want to finish the interviews this year. I'd love to go to columbia and hope there's a chance of me getting an interview before DEC 1.

I also applied to NYU, BU, Tufts, UCSF, UOP, USC, UPENN, + UNLV. Not sure if I'll get interviews for those schools. Thanks for responding.

I think BU is the one that gave out most of pre Dec interviews already.
I would check with schools individually and see if you could fax your DAT scores right away and they will accept it- many schools will and put your file under review.
NYU, Tufts, BU and USC are schools that will give decent amount of interviews post Dec as well as their classes have been formed late in the past years. So they interview well into spring for the actual seats. Your numbers are good, if the rest of your app is solid you will get your invites.

Thank you so much for such a thorough explanation.
