Hi, I am thinking of taking DAT either in late June or mid July and submit my application by mid July.

Do you think Mid July is too late?
I know the earlier the better, but would it make a huge difference?

Short answer, no. If you take it mid-July your scores would arrive at the schools no later than 2 weeks so that would be early August which is still pretty early.

Depends on your GPA and DAT scores. If you're a 3.5 GPA and above, it won't hurt you as much. But I do believe applying with a 3.3 or below hurts you later on. Take the DAT when you're comfortable and try to apply ASAP.

So, Mid July would be late if you have lower than 3.3 GPA?

Yes. Obviously, early is better.

However, please keep in mind. Later with better score is better than earlier with lower scores.

In other words, even if you have a 3.3, take it when you are ready, even if it means a late application.

Is submitting by late July, early August still considered early?

If you'r applying via AADSAS, you can "apply" (send in your application) without DAT scores. I sent in my application in early July and took the DAT in early August (8/8/2011). I got an early interview and did fine. So, send in your application without DAT scores as soon as you can. Take the DAT preferably before August, or not to much after, and send the score when you're done. Your DAT is more important than your application date.

I would say June is early and July is still ok. After that there's probably a huge number of applications sent in. Good luck
