Hi,

I was hoping someone could offer some info or experiences that they had with late med school interviews (late Feb., early march). I received a few late interviews and I know other people who received and did not get into those schools but got accepted into other med schools. If one receives an interview invite later in the admission process is he or she less likely to get accepted than if he or she received the invite earlier on?

It vastly depends on the school. At some schools, if you get a late interview, you are essentially interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. Other schools continuously accept post-interview through March/April, so you'd still have a shot at acceptances. Most schools will be more selective in March than they are in September, but remember that schools don't like to waste their time - if they offer you an interview, they are genuinely interested in finding out more about you. Plenty of people interview in March and get accepted (many, many success stories on SDN).

There's no doubt that interviewing early will give you a higher chance of acceptance due to more open spots in the class. Given that, it also depends on your application as a whole. If you are a high-end applicant who is interviewing late due to personal reasons or submitting an application late, you will still have a decent chance of acceptance, whereas if you are an average applicant, you will be in a tougher spot than a similar applicant who interviewed earlier.
I suggest that you trust in yourself and your application, give a great presentation of yourself, and leave the rest to the adcom. If you are a worthy candidate, you will definitely have a chance of acceptance.

I've heard many stories of people getting in from March interviews at Downstate and NYMC. This doesn't apply to every school.

Anyone have experience this cycle with being extended a "late" interview invitation after notifying a school you would be in the area?

Is the opposite ever true? I interviewed very early at a couple of schools, and by this point i'm pretty sure they forgot about me. One school does most of its acceptances in March, and i'm thinking a feb interview at a school like that has a distinct advantage over the September folks.

I forgot which school this was but someone at a New York school just posted about an acceptance last week from an October interview.

Yea it's normal, here in Lebanon you usually get your interview around late Feb or early March since some students would be yet to submit their MCAT scores ( As long as the MCAT is that of January).
