Caduceus. :-D
Yea, that. Lol, I couldn't remember how to spell it and couldn't be assed to look it up.
Thanks

Caduceus. :-D

Your post is cracking me up!
The way I see it, people can tell what you look like (not you, but a hypothetical you) when you have your clothes on. For example, it isn't going surprise people if someone has a fat stomach...unfortunately you can tell that through a T-shirt. I'm not in medical school, but I would guess that people take their shirts off and on during OMM.
Chicken parmesan is amazing...you should try it with goat cheese sometime. It will blow your mind!
Speaking of tattoos...
I have one on my left wrist of my fiance's initials, which can be covered with a watch if I *have* to. I was thinking of getting a tattoo to commemorate getting into DO medical school (when I do get in), but wonder if it would be premature to get something like the staff with the snake twirly thing? Not really sold on this design yet, but I do want something symbolic.
What does the Late Night crew think?
I love this idea! If you get it, can I be your OMM partner? I want to touch your snake. On your tattoo I mean.
But really, it sounds like a great idea. I'm not into getting tattoos on my own body, but it's cool to see other people have them...kinda like spinner-rims with neon blue lights. 👍

But I hate spinner rims, especially with neon blue lights 🙁
I meant it as an example of something I like to see on others but I'd never get myself.
Go for the tatt! Where were you planning on getting it?
Tattoos and OMM lab are very interesting.
One day this guy volunteered to be the patient and out of nowhere, comes a tramp stamp!! With roses and thorns and everything!
Seen lots of tribal tattoos on guys, occasional skull here and there.
I'm not against tattoos or piercings but I do worry about residencies seeing them if they are readily visible.
I would hold off on getting a medically related tattoo. Maybe I'm just old school, but you gotta pay your dues son.
I worry about residencies as well, but luckily most places on the body are easily covered by a long-sleeve dress shirt and some nice slacks.
I'm not the type to get tattoos just for the hell of it, or to look "cool." (I'm not saying that some guys don't get tattoos that mean something, but I'm pretty sure 90% of guys with tribal **** just want to look cool). I'm very big on tattoos having meaning, and being admitted to medical school is a major life change which would hold meaning to me.
👍
I think you should get a tattoo of your avatar. It'll be symbolic of your time on SDN. 🙂

hello fellow late -nighters .... Sucks that I have no way to kill time..Anyone suggest any good books to read?
Hot Lights Cold Steelalready read it !
Wait, so does that mean you undress people with your eyes too? I thought I was the only one. 😛
Oh goat cheese sounds good! I actually used fat free cheese. It's like my mind was preparing me for OMM lab without me even realizing it. Way to go, mind!!
And thanks PJ. 😉
🙄 men always undress with their eyes! Grr..should start using their hands too 😀
If you're gonna go DO note that you want a tattoo of the Staff of Aesclepius and not a caduceus. The caduceus is for MDs, the DOs use Aesclepius. The main difference is that there is only one snake on the DO symbol.
I was wondering if anyone knew the OMM lab dress code for DMU, KCUMB, or TCOM? I know t-shirts go off when acting as the patient... but do you have to sit for like 10 minutes, or is it like a minute every once in a while? Again, I'm not basing any huge decisions on this, so don't turn this wonderful late night thread into a flame war.![]()
Didn't finish reading this whole thread since I need to log off now, but in case no one has answered yet - at DMU you don't need to take off your shirt. Sometimes you just need to lift it up a bit. We just wear a t-shirt and shorts (or pants). It just has to be the uniform that you buy in the bookstore.
Hello all. I'm up tonight trying to wrap my mind around this organic chemistry. I really thought I was all over it until the professor showed an example of a test. I think I soiled myself then. Now I'm not going to sleep until the semester is over I'm afraid...
Hm... well my advice for organic chemistry has always been to understand it conceptually as opposed to memorize everything. You'd be surprised how many mechanisms you can logic your way through just by understanding the simple concept of molecular stability.
Best of luck buddy. 👍

I'm doing the O-chem thing tonight myself in the passenger seat of the ambulance. If you haven't got it already, Organic Chemistry As A Second Language is a good book too. We just started mechanisms ourselves. I'm still trying to grasp IUPAC names!
Did everyone decide to sleep? This was at the bottom of the second page!!

Keep getting caught up in biochem... stupid amino acid chapter. Lol.

I haven't taken biochem in 12 years! lol Big changes coming next fall!
I at least try to sleep so thats my excuse for staying off the thread.
What made you decide to become a medical doctor instead of just a dentist?🙂
Darn those proteins!!! I loved biochem, but it was a lot of studying. lol. Good luck man 👍

I love how you said "just a dentist". haha
So I told the girl that I was thinking about getting a tattoo when I get accepted into medical school, and she was all like "hell yea!" and then I said what do u think of the Caduceus thingamabober? and then she rolled her eyes in disgust and told me not to get that (She's an RN, and thinks its stupid to get a medical related tattoo. She said I should get an animal instead. I love her, but she's silly 🙂 )
🙁 sad panda 🙁 back to the drawing board.

Her advice was to get an animal? Oh my...
My friend is getting an awesome tattoo of DNA on his arm. It's a copy of this one:
![]()
It's a bit much, but I told him he would officially reach Legendary status if he follows through with it.
....perfect example of a very regrettable tatoo.
He could always cut off his arm and grow another one. Oh wait... I guess that's another reason why starfish > humans. 😡
You know I didn't mean it like that.. 🙄
Yeah, I wanna be a real doc!! Seriously, My interests are more broad than dentistry can offer. I want to practice within a wider scope. I also met a cool DO who inspired me to apply. He's an author and focuses on weight loss. One of my passions.

That's really cool. I was honestly just curious. Will you use both in practice or how does that work?
I'm not sure, if I practice in a rural area -- I may do both.
