Hi everyone,

I need some help. My original plan was to apply to med school for the incoming class of 2020. I decided to go out on a whim and try my luck at applying for the class of 2019. My application was submitted at the end of July and I just got my MCAT scores back tonight. I have yet to send in my secondary apps because I didn't want to waste the money sending in secondary apps without knowing what I got on my MCAT. I ended up getting a 511 and my GPA is 3.9. Is it too late in the game to have a good chance at a spot for the class of 2019? I know admissions are on a rolling basis. I feel like my application is strong enough to submit secondary apps but I just don't want to spend the money if it's too late anyways.

I'd say there's a pretty strong chance you're too late. I think by being too careful early on and not submitting your secondaries you shot yourself in the foot. There is certainly a chance you could still get interviews/acceptances but given that you were reluctant to spend the money before getting your score I'd guess that you aren't keen on spending all that money now without any assurances. Now, on the bright side, you can maximize the other parts of your applications for 2020 and have the best possible application for June next year.

At this point, you're a reapplicant so maybe just choose your state school and maybe another one that you'd like to go to (esp if the school i known for being slow).

For MD, try your state school. Otherwise, wait until next ccyle.

Not too late for DO, and with a 511, it's worth trying now.
