Latest Date to Retake MCAT for this Cycle

August is quite late, really pushing your buttons, since you will not get it until September and interviews are already being sent out.

I suggest July 24th if thats the earliest you can go with, you do not want to push your application back too much. How was your first MCAT score and GPA? Perhaps that can put your foot in the door at least for some interviews, then with the improved MCAT (hopefully!) it will boost you up more.

That's precisely what I'm thinking: that my first MCAT + GPA can get me interviews, but I'd need an improved for acceptances. My first MCAT (taken 5/17/14) is a 32, 14/9/9 PS/VR/BS and my GPA is a 3.9. I really want to get into MSTP programs, so I think it's necessary. And yes, July 24th would be my earliest since I will be finishing my app this week, giving me a full month to study for it.

Your stats are amazing! You would have to get a 34+ to make it worthwhile and that seems risky....did you get below your AAMC average?

I think that 3.9 will give you a boost too, especially if you have good EC and LORs. I agree MSTP are really competitive, but even know you are competitive. If you think you can get a 34+ with really strong confidence I would retake, but I feel against it.

Thanks! I did do above my AAMC average (30), but I took the 5 practice tests the week before the test. I feel that I can do better so I will try, but if my AAMC average isn't 35+, I will just cancel. I don't have good EC's other than tutoring and extensive research (since 9th grade with 2 co-authored publications), but I have incredible LOR's.

Since you did well above your average I would just stick with what you got and knock out your primary application and secondaries. Just like you said, do not bother unless you can hit the 35 range consistently.

Yes retake it. I have a friend at at top MSTP program and would not have gotten in had they not retaken it for that cycle. Depends on your target schools, but most MSTPS are very competitive.
