Latest date to take Step 2 CS/CK?

When is the latest date you can take step 2 CS? My advisor told me I just have to take it so the "pass" comes before rank lists are certified by programs. I currently have it scheduled for November, which means the score should come in early February (rank lists are due Feb 25th).

Similarly I was going to take Step 2 CK in late November or early December so the score is back before rank lists are due. I have a strong step 1. Is this a safe plan??
