Does anyone have the latest information as to interview invitations and spaces remaining at NYU? Someone mentioned earlier that Tufts had filled 87/165 spots; I was hoping if someone knew this information for NYU.

Thanks

Hey Khan, what say you? 🙂 Well, from what I heard, and I sure hope this isn't set in stone is there are 200 confirmed spots and only 30 left. HOWEVER, they said that most likely people will drop out. So that's good news for us. Did you interview yet and / or are you on the waiting list too?

i interviewed yesterday....the dean of admissions said that there are 30 spots left....i call BS on that statement. but if it was true this is how i would interpret it: maybe 200 people (of a class of 230) have put down their deposit down, but as some of these people are admitted to cheaper schools expect more spots to open.

with that said, i was impressed with the school...but i just don't know if i could justify spending $80+k/year to goto dental school.

good luck, jb!🙂

Hey Jb, how was your interview there? You'll most likely get in!!! What did you think of the crowd & the faculty overall? I'm pretty sure more spots will HAVE to open up because I would think ATLEAST a few of that bunch will most likely get into cheaper schools

yea people will drop out...i was accepted and sent in my deposit. But I just recently got accepted to Detroit-Mercy and am having one hell of a time deciding which school I should go to...as i'm sure will happen w/ others

That is for sure. 200 people have paid deposit but come May, maybe 20 or so will drop off the list because they got into their state school.

So don't expect then to accept another 200 students for 30 spots as of now. They'll proably accept another 30 then pick from the waitlist in May.

Although, thats all guessing as no one knows what really goes on in admissions. ****, I have a friend applying to Med school. all around great out-going guy, tons of extras, killer MCAT yet he has been denied or waitlisted at 16 schools. No acceptance for him yet.

Well, according to a few representatives there, they said that they WILL be reviewing the waitlist next month, so I think there's still a chance for waitlistees!!! 🙂

Hey Jb, how was your visit there? What did you think of the crowd & the faculty overall?

hey speedy, my visit was nice. faculty was great and students seemed happy overall. a student yelled "don't come to hereeeeee" as we were taking the tour. this same remark was mentioned many times over on the interview feedback. i wasn't sure if the students were joking or not, but either way it seemed very unprofessional and was a turn off--def. not something you want to hear if it costs $80k/year to attend. the facilities were very nice (not as nice as maryland, but still superb)....and they had more "extras" to offer than other schools.. i.e. invisalign training, integrated business curiculum, and the institute of asthetics.

the interview was very very easy...the first thing the interviewer asked me was "do you think UF will win the NCAA tourney again?"...it was a laid back conversation from there on out. at the end he said that it wouldn't be an interview if he didn't ask me "why dentistry? and why nyu?"...that was that!

jb!🙂

No interview yet 🙁 . If only 30 odd spots are left and they still have the waitlist to chosse from, it seems like no NYU for me.

Khair, Allah Malik hai.

I remember hearing the same thing JB, although it wasnt screamed..it was whispered to me as we were walking through clinic. Facilities are very nice, plenty of chairs, and the "extras" are definitely a bonus. I'm still not finding out how good they are clinically though, it seems like people who interview/call the school get a very positive answer from facutly...but i've read some posts on here from actual students saying its not what everyone thinks...that the patient pool isn't that huge, or that you dont get enough experience in clince, etc...and there is the whole 230 (and eventually 330+) students that will be in your graduating class....this is why i'm so torn b/t NYU and UDM (only 80 students). And..you will for sure get in JB, good job. As for everyone else, dont give up hope...still time left and yes, people do drop out of NYU when another option opens up...so until the next year begins you still have a shot!

To those who are still on the waitlist...I will call the office on this Monday to give up my spot because I just got accepted to my state school. Wish my state school contacted me before I sent my deposit to NYU...what a waste of $1500..OUCH 🙂

GOD BLESS YOU my friend, you're a shining example of SDN's finest 🙂 more chances for us fellow waitlistees. Thanks a bunch, the more seats that open up, the better our chances! At this point, I'll take whatever school I can get, as I'm waitlisted at NYU and Columbia too, still waiting to hear from Stony & UMDNJ heh!!!!!

I was in the office a week ago and was told that not even half the class was full...?

Can I still expect acceptance letter w/o in an interview???

i don't think they are doing acceptance w/o interview this year....someone correct me if i'm wrong??

jb!🙂

I think they've given out a few...but I dont think they are doing it anywhere near as much as they used to.

The question is how many students do they have in the waiting list and how will they pick and choose? Can anyone shred some light on it?

Hey Sadi, what's happening man, well, I'm not as worried about the people on the waiting list as I am about the actual number of seats FILLED, as that is what will hold up the show and nothing can happen until most of those people hear from their top choice / cheaper school, & so on. How is waitlist city treating you, very agonizing I can imagine. I think we have a chance as long as a sufficient amount of people drops out over the next few weeks / months. Hang in there Sadi, I'm always here to talk, as dealing with an NYU & Columbia waitlist is far from adventurous, hopefully we'll be fine & atleast get in SOMEWHERE.

Thanks dude. Yes wait is tough but I guess I have no option.

I interviewed last week and got an acceptance letter today. 🙂 So, for people who are going to interview/just interviewed, they have a quick turnaround time.

Much appreciated my friend. I am curious though. If what was said before is correct and that they will fill the class throughout March from interviews, and then take people from the waitlist as people who got in change their minds, would us waitlistees lose out because of it? They might accept someone from the interviews to fill the newly available spot instead of taking from the waitlist, at least untill April or May. And by all accounts the waitlist seems quiet extensive or NYU so... Just wish there was more information out there. GL All!

i hope that NYU, or any adcom for that matter, would put an applicant that is less qualified than someone on waitlist....on the waitlist! Who knows though....NYU rejected a lot of highly qualified applicants early and they may be kicking themselves in the rear now because they realize they can't fill their entire class with 3.5+ GPA's and 22 DAT scores.

I wish you the best of luck though, jb!🙂
