what are the latest day one can resonalble excpect to interview. i am trying to arrange my fourth year schedule. it is safe to assume we should be done interveiwing by mid januarary?

Interviews go until late January and even early February. The rank order lists are not due until February 27 (ours and theirs).

Of course you could pretty easily schedule your interviews such that you are done by mid January -- esp. if you don't accept any last-minute "off the waitlist" interviews.
