I'm planning on traveling to Latin America this summer to improve my Spanish and just for the sake of traveling. It'd be wonderful if there are any programs that offer medical exposure or the opportunity to practice medical Spanish. Have any of you had any good/bad experiences with such programs or traveling to Latin America in general? Thanks!

Yes, there are programs, but they cost a lot of money. I had a good experience with CFHI last summer (in Quito, Ecuador), although we primarily observed - not a lot of patient contact. You might have more fun just traveling.

try looking up info on the universidad autonoma de guadalajara... they teach medical spanish and guadalajara is a wonderful city!

Guadalajara is great. I took a few classes at the Universidad de Guadalajara the summer of my sophmore year and loved it. I would recommend to try to live with a host family. Makes things a lot easier.

look up proworld service corps on the internet. i think the website is proworldsc.org... i was in oaxaca mexico this past summer and it was great. wonderful city, great host family,,, not too much medical experience but if your going to be there for a while you can get GREAT exposure... if your not there for very long its not worth it to any clinic to train you... but if they know your gonna stay they will let you see and do sweet stuff
