Hey all,

How bad is to have a misdemeanor (theft in high school) and 2 conduct violations in college (drinking freshman yr)? im getting kinda nervous cause I heard stories of some people not getting accepted because of their ghosts in their past. I had no excuses for all of them, except being dumb and dont participate in those things anymore. If you got accepted or know of people with similar situations, let me know so I can have some peace of mind. thanks.

If you were under 18 at the time it is not accessible to the screening company that works for AMCAS, no matter what you sign. I don't know what your actual obligation is to reveal juvenille records in a case like this. I'd be interested to hear more about that aspect.

your record is sealed if you were underage. If the conduct violations were school-related then they may be on your transcript, but won't be on a background check.

yea my misdemeanor is sealed and the conduct isnt on my transcript, but i did put it on my secondaries... just wondering what the reprecussions would be since I already stated I had a history of misconduct

In my experience (adcom, one school), citations for underage drinking will slow your application through the system and delay interview invitations but it is not impossible to get interviews/offers. Be patient. I'd suspect that your interviews will be in early 2010.

So if one makes it to the interview stage with a red flag, is that an indication that it is not that much of an issue?

Don't worry about it. My freshman year, I had a paraphernalia charge. I wrote a REALLY good explanation about wrong place, wrong time, bad new friends, and it never came up in my interviews. I think that the reason I didn't get in this past year was because of my bogus MCAT score. You were young and they know it. As far as waiting until 2010, that's BS. I got my first interview November 5th of last year.

One adcom from my school's med school when giving a presentation to BMES (club) that I went to said something to the effect of, "If its one underage...we don't care. Most of the applications its not if they have one, but how many." I'm sure its different other places and for other adcoms. This is Wisconsin though, so I am guessing a lot more students here have them than most places. I can't say about the theft, but if its sealed I bet you're ok.
