What will happen to the students and accepted students if LCME revokes the accreditation of a medical school that is on probation (for instance Rosalind Franklin)?

Does probationary status affect anything? It seems more of a warning than actual punishment.

The school will sue the LCME and get its accreditation back, as has happened before.

Well, assuming the deficiencies are addressed. I mean, if a school doesn't meet the standards they don't qualify for accreditation.

For the most part, though, probation issues tend to be pretty minor. It seems like a big red flag, but you should investigate the reason for the probation. There are some surprisingly silly things that are critical for accreditation but are unimportant for your education. For example, Pritzker was either on probation or received a warning because the clerkships were failing to document issues related to student mistreatment and faculty-observed histories and physicals for students. It's not that these things were problems - the school just wasn't formally documenting that these issues were being addressed to prevent issues. The correction was to include a couple of questions in our end-of-clerkship evaluations that met the requirement for this "documentation."

One of Rosiland Franklin's LCME issues was not having enough lockers. Look at the types of complaints before panicking.
Hey... You never know what these LCME bureaucrats will do. They sometimes forget that there are lives and money in play in this game.

I can only guess, but probably the same thing that happened with the disaccredited Puerto Rican school and with the New Orleans school that closed temporarily after Katrina: Other accredited US med schools would volunteer to squeeze them in until they'd all been accommodated.

Were all these students able to find a school? Shouldn't the LCME be responsible to find them at least a school and not leave them on their own to find one?

I don't know how the administrative process was initiated or what the final upshot might have been, but for all the students my school took in, we already had a Primary application on file.

I think that goes without saying. Every school, even if the issues are minor, takes accreditation very seriously and works hard to address issues gain back their full accreditation status when put on probation.
