LD50 question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It seems like you're missing a column, there should be a "total number of test rats/mice/pigs/dogs/cats/etc". Unless they've figured out a new way to derive LD50.

The LD50 tables I've seen all where
dose # of test subjects # of (living or dead subjects at end)

The alternative is that from this data there isn't an LD50 since it killed all the subjects leaving 0/90.

As for talking to the prof, if that's not working try to get a tutor or a 2nd/3rd year to help out. Buy them lunch or something. 😉

I was agreeing with your statement of not having enough information, hence the "seems like you're missing a column" part of my statement. Thus I was answering question numero uno. (More clearly, from the information provided, YOU are correct) The second part, while a completely prickish thing to do, is a valid question depending on the type of test (short answer). It would indicate that no dose allows a survivable subject.

My second part was a comment on how to deal with the teacher (in general), because it's unlikely this will be the only time you have to deal with them. Maybe you can take a few minutes and get a better idea of what the general feel of how to deal with the professor.

Thanks for your reply, I was kind surprised that nobody other than you replied to my post. I thought it was a simple and clear-cut concept.

In any event, it would be impossible to calculate LD50 without the number of test animals provided. One thing is clear, the teacher is not as competent as she should be. I will be doing my own research if the same teacher is teaching us something I feel uncomfortable in the future.
