What are some ways to show adcoms leadership skills? what activities highlight that personality about you??

The activity I'm involved with which has probably done the most to develop my leadership skills is being a member of SDN, particularly in the role of Sr. Mod. 🙂

Laugh if you want. It involves leadership both by example and training others, with plenty of practice in self-restraint, demonstrating respect for others, treating others fairly, knowing when to pull the power card and when to let others take the lead. The biggest payoffs are watching others become confident enough to make their own good choices, and the interaction that goes on behind the scenes, where we get lots of experience working together as a team and drawing on each others strengths and experiences, in order to work for everyone's best advantage.

The most difficult part is having to do the right thing by playing the heavy when others persist in making poor choices.

There are two responses to this question I think:

1.) I am of the opinion that 'natural' leaders tend to fall into the position repeatedly. Almost everything I have been involved in I have 'fallen' into a leadership position. Why? I don't know, it just happens. Do I consider myself a leader for it? Of course, and I have used it for my essays. I also think that people can take the initiative to become leaders by having certain habits that allow them to be effective, so if you have time go for it.

2.) There might also be leadership qualities that you have demonstrated that you haven't recognized yet. I don't think you have to be president of the most active BIO club in the state to have some leadership to talk about. You can demonstrate leadership in individual situations. I would start thinking about those if you don't have the above mentioned leadership positions to talk about. Either that or become an SDN mod and steal Humid's answer above for your secondary essays.

Just my thoughts, I am sure you have done some things that could be considered leadership.
