I just want to learn how to be enthusiastic about studying for SAT..

school in general has become a bore over the past few yrs for me...

are there techniques any one of yall can tell me about, so I can sit down for a period of time without being distracted or bored?

Studying for the SAT is never going to be all that fun. Try and find games online to break the monotony, or if possible study with a friend (you can race in the problems, or you can quiz each other on vocab). Other than that, the biggest thing that you can do to make studying better is to think about how it will positively impact your life. Take the time to think about what you want out of college, where you want to go, and what SAT score you need to attend that college. Having an end point or a reason for studying will make it easier to study and will give you something to look forward to.

Games/Stupid Crap I saw after a quick search:

Interestingly enough, if you still have a wheel iPod, Kaplan offers SAT games for all sections on the iTunes.

Something as bland as the SAT will be difficult to get enthusiastic about. However, I agree with penguin that studying with a friend can be a good motivator. When I was first studying for the SAT my parents actually offered money if I was able to achieve a certain score on my practice tests. For a poor little High School student the idea was great...but then they kinda never paid me. 🙁

I second keeping your goals in mind.

Also, breaks are your friend. Study for whatever length of time you are comfortable with, and when you start to feel bored/unproductive get up and take a (short) break. If you spend 15-30 minutes doing something you enjoy once in awhile you will get less burned-out and be more productive.

do i still have time b4 oct. 9th, that's when i take the test...

any sort of prep plan i should work on for the next 6 wks??

You can take a subject based plan and spend some time on geometry, then algebra, then common SAT "other" math, as well as work in some vocab and reading.

Personally what I would do is take 1 full length test each weekend, timed and by yourself (no TV, no SDN, no cell phone, no friends, no mom telling you to do your chores or whatever) and 2 sections every weekday. That should get you through 12ish tests, which is a good amount of practice. As always, try the college board's SAT book for your first 8 tests, then go to whatever 3rd party you feel like for the rest.

No matter what though, practice should be a big part of this, and so should vocab. With 6 weeks, you have just enough time to really crank out some vocab flashcards or lists and memorize them. remember that specific definitions don't count, just know how to use it in a sentence and be able to at the very least classify it as good vs. bad vs. neutral so you can narrow down answer choices on the test.

Practice makes it perfect. Keep going !

Ummm... if you ever actually become enthusiastic about the SAT, that's just wrong...

But people actually prepare for that SAT nowadays? When I took it (not that long ago) me nor any of my friends actually studied for the SAT. But then again I didn't score too great.

so far, i've done 9 tests

will my score improve from an 1890?

to what...im trying to hit 2000...

vstexas - Are you scoring them? Just use the scoring guide and if you're missing and skipping fewer than your last official test, then obviously you're improving! The curve is not always the same, but if you're over the 600 mark in each section you have a fair idea what each extra point will do for you. Good luck!

So I've prepared extensively by practicing, and I really want you guys to pray for me, because I hate taking these tests

so far i've done like 9 or 10 practice tests...

i got an 1890 last time, do you guys think i'll do better...

please pray!
