If you go by Step 1 scores, than PM&R.

I'm sure Internal Medicine at Mass General Hospital is as competitive, if not more, than the typical EM/Surgery/Radiology/etc residency.

It doesn't, except he is asking for a specialty which he would need the least work to get into. It's not the residency that's mediocre, it's the OP for thinking he won't be competitive for the ones that (I assume) he actually wants.

I understand your point, I just think that's a lot of [unnecessary] implying from a single question. 🙂

It might be that he's looking for the most freedom to choose where (location) he wants to go for residency. Certainly in a less competitive residency you have a better chance of getting to go where you want.

Seems pretty logical to me. By asking which is the easiest to get into, it sounds like they are asking "which will I be able to get into, because I don't think I'll do so well." I think you were making making some assumptions regarding my post when you said I basically implied that choosing a less-competitive residency equals mediocrity.

But... I suppose neither of us are right or wrong until the OP confirms why they asked this question.

Maybe-
or maybe the OP doesn't want to have to live through a 4-5 year residency having to prove everyday whose the smartest, fastest, brightest, prettiest, etc. in the program.

Some people love and thrive in competition. Others, maybe not.

But, you're right that we won't know until the OP clarifies his/her intent.

Those are huge assumptions peeps HUGE

Now there's a valuable goal. Given that general surgery probably has the highest concentration of asshats, what are two or three residencies (besides FP and PMN&r; if I matched into either of them I'd have to give self-immolation a serious thought) with the lowest?

it really depends on where. there is a psych program that gets over 300 applicants for 10 spots. that sounds pretty competitive to me. anything at a big important hospital is competitive, even proctology 👍

If by proctology you mean gastroenterology, than your joke falls flat, because it is a competitive subspecialty everywhere, not just at some places. If you mean colo-rectal surgery, last time I checked that was a competitive fellowship as well.

Proctology.

Whoops... thought you were referring to the least glamorous residency. My bad.

it was a joke, calm down.

I'm quite calm. I think you're accusing me of being worked up because you are embarassed you made a lame joke. I have no interest in colo-rectal surgery or gastro, so I'm not offended, merely pointing out your joke doesn't make sense.

i guess me and terpskins are on probation for making butt jokes. thank you joke police. 🙄

i know this totally doesnt belon in 'least' competative residencies but does anyone know what % of DOs match into diagnostic radiology?

Eh, I liked the joke; proctology's just plain funny to the uninitiated (such as myself).

Reminds me of a story I read here on SDN of a pre-med who knew a proctologist. Apparently when this doctor was asked why he chose proctology he liked to answer that he finished last in his class.

I thought that was funny too...(and why is SDN telling me I'm misspelling proctology??)
