Hello,
Appreciate input from someone who had left a PCP job before.

I'm a recent IM grad doing Primary care in NY. I have to leave this job by July due to an unexpected circumstance. So I don't have much time prepare for leaving.
My contract states I need to give 6 months notice however my employer is willing to accept shorter notice and honestly they are glad I'm leaving due to the financial issues from the pandemic. my contract allows the employer to fire me any day after I give notice. So they are working on letting me go ASAP.

How many days of notice should a PCP give to their patients in advance when PCP leaves practice?
I saw the requirements can vary depending on the state, I couldn't find a straight answer for this regarding NY state medical board site.
where should I look for this? This is my main worry since they want me gone ASAP.

Apart from making sure malpractice/tail cover in place, non compete regulations what else should I pay attention on?
Do I need to hire a lawyer?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on what your state requires for severing the patient-physician relationship.

The minimum most places is 30 days, however you can get around that if your employer has an immediate backup in place so your patients are not abandoned at all.

Thank you very much for your input, good to know that backup is an option.
