Hello fellow Lecomers, I just wanted to start a thread so we could all get to know each other before school starts. Feel free to post to this thread.

Calel-S interview 10-22 accepted 11/1. My undergrad was at Ohio State University. Think thats about it. talk to you all later. Congrats to all who were accepted.

I will be joining you at LECOM-Erie as part of the class of 2009! Hopefully more respond to this thread, so we can get to know some more people joining us. I graduated this past August from Bowling Green State University!

My names is James McEntee
Accepted into LECOM erie
Interviewed on 10/23, notified on 11/7. PBLP :meanie:

I look forward to meeting everyone.

Originally I was goign to PCSOM, but decided LECOM had better opportunities. So today I mailed them my 1500 deposit (ouch). Any way my name is Gerald Wynne from Chattanooga TN for the last 10 years. Will Graduate from the University of Tennessee this fall with a Biology degree. I am presently looking to buy a home in Erie, but have yet to decide how close I want to be to the college. I will be attending the lecture based courses. If anyone wants to contact me my yahoo name is gwynnetn. Warning I only check it every few days if that until finals are over in 2 weeks. Hope to see more of us on here soon.

I was debating over the PBL and LDP, and finally ended up going with the LDP. Guess it was just what I am used to, and would be more comfortable "doing what I have always done". It was really a hard decision because I was fascinated with the PBL.

Did anyone say yes to the roomate match list? I was just wondering how that was going to work, and what everyone esle was going to to as far as their living situation?!

Oh and my name is William Burgette, but I go by Will 👍

Originally I have been looking into buying a house, but all the houses for around 800 or less mortage are either very old or far from campus. So I will be looking for a roommate and most likely check into the apartment/ condo/townhomes what ever they were, right next to LECOM. That way if my car wont start NO BIGGIE just walk to class. I did sign up for the roommate match. I plan to travel to Erie in late spring to find my apartment and take the family on a trip for the last time till I see them when I can ( yes I have children, no they will not be with me). Hope to see you all soon.

I did the roomate match list thing as well. Probably will travel to Erie in month or so and look around at apartments and houses, and try to get on some list early in the spring or so.

hope to meet you all. I was initilly excepted for 2008 and deferred to 2009. not gonna miss out this time.

Howdy everyone! I interviewed on 11/22 and receieved my acceptance letter a few days ago. Hope to meet you all soon.

congrats! where are you from?

Trenton, North Dakota
Its a small town in northwestern part of the state about five miles from Montana and 60 miles from Canada.

Dont plan on walking too much....youll want to drive....even when you park in the far lot. W Grandview can get pretty busy, there is no sidewalk and typically has no shoulder during the winter (Nov-April). I lived in Scenery Hills apts for 3 years. great location...yes I could walk, and did (or rode a bike) when the weather was nice, but dont plan on doing it much!!!
stomper

Decided I need not want the headache of a possible breakdown so bought a new 2005 jeep wrangler by trading in a few old cars. My payments are very low so I can easily afford the payments, and will have it paid off in 3 years. So watch out Winter in Erie, Here I come.

Hello,
Interviewed early october and accepted not long after that! I will be in PBL program! Anyone else for PBL?

You are going to need that Jeep...We got a foot and half of snow yesterday!

I am seriously considering getting something of a 4 wheel drive nature, because my truck is horrible in the snow and even rain for that matter!

hey guys, just got my acceptance letter today and i've never been so happy. i still haven't heard back from my #1 school so i'm not a definite LECOMer yet but i'll be sending my deposit since i doubt i'll hear back from the other school before LECOM's deposit is due.

congrats on your acceptance

Hey guys,

I got in too. Interviewed in December, got in a few days ago. Don't know if I'm goin PBL or LDP, I'm clueless.

I believe that if your letter doesn't say anything, you are LDP

doctortobee is right....i remember elaine mentioned that during the interview where she said that there would be a separate letter indicating that you got into PBL or ISP but no letter for LDP (it would just be assumed).

Hi All,

My interview at LECOM is scheduled in January. It's my first interview and I am not quite sure what to expect (except for the notorious dinner question!). Anyone have any helpful tips? 😕

just read all the questions in the interview feedback section of this site. all of the questions i was asked were there. i wouldn't have scripted answers ready but general ideas of what you will talk about for each question. the interview at LECOM is very laid back and relatively stess-free. just relax, be yourself, and get a good night's rest before the interview. good luck!

anybody rrecive any info from the school after the acceptance letter? I was accepted last year and had my acceptance deferred to this fall. I got the letter and permission to defer---bvut not a word since.

PS: any current student---if you have access to or copies of--or even your old---packets from first year classes I would be interested in buying them from you. Get a jump on some of the material.

Gwynn,

Similar plan. I am a bit older, looking for a house to buy, married, no kids. But my wife will be joining me, it will be on and off the first year, she has a year of school to finish in Rochester before she came come join me full time.

Weather, Comming from rochester, Erie's like a summer paradise. I look forward to the 5 degree difference.

Anyways, I am doing to PBL and I think it sounds great. I look forward to meeting everyone.

I took a trip up to Erie and I have been trying to scope out alternative study places, I see Gannon is in Erie, I wonder if they would allow us to use there library?

There are always LECOM students studying at Gannon, Mercyhurts, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Wegmans!

Do they ask any science/medical based questions to "test" your knowledge base?
Thanks

PS Oh, I have an interview in January as well at LECOM.

Inhope,

They did give us an essay to read while we were waiting for our interviews. Then while we were waiting the guide talk about everything under the sun, where to eat, were to drink, were to pick your nose, ect, but the key is to not forget about the essay. While the tour guide is asking all these meaningless questions, review the essay in your head, maybe even go over it again, note the changes, the "jist", the conclusion, the theme of the essay. Don;t worry about all the little details, but know it well enough. They will ask you about it in the interview, its not a huge deal, they just asked me to summerize the essay. But, it could be a tripping block if your not on your toes. Also, at the end be sure to tell them that they are your number one choice!!! Generally it was the best presentation I have seen so far, ohh yeah don;t be late either. map it out the night before, Best to stay in Erie also, the hotels are dirt cheap (40$ a night),

Good luck Inhope. We'll be rooting for you.

The advice offered by Jim is right on pertaining to the article they have you read! No outside medical knowledge is required, except if you may have some further insight to the article that you read. The article I read during my interview was about HDL and LDL, and I had done some research in undergrad about it.

Thanks for the feedback! I guess I'll just take a long deep breath and just be myself with a few questions about the school. Thanks for the info!

Just relaxing and being yourself is really the best thing you can do to prepare, but it is actually easier to say than do! Good luck again, and if ya need anymore info I am sure someone here should be able to help. Let us know how it turns out! 👍

for those that have already decided on attending LECOM, have you started to shop the area for apartments or houses? i'm planning on heading out there during my spring break in march to check out some places but i wanted to do some research on the area (nice neighborhoods, prices, etc) before i went out there. if you've already looked around, where did you look? they gave us that little rental guide in our interview packet but i'm sure that there's something more comprehensive out there but i haven't been able to find anything yet.

I actually live about an hour and 20 minutes from the campus. I am in the ISP program. I will certainly stay somewhere for the initial 12 weeks, but after that I will make the drive.

PS: I am so jacked about starting. I wish to God I could have started last August. God---I am jacked.

I'm in!

Interviewed on Dec. 20, accepted Jan. 5.......I'll be in LDP

ggod for you. is it not the most exciting thing to open that letter?

I felt the same way when I recieved my acceptance letter for PA school. Make sure to hang on to it. You will need to remember this feeling when your ass deep in frustration.

I did take a second trip up and I checked out the living scene. The great thing is all appartments are reasonable, as low as 350 for a one bedroom, but many choices in the 400-450 range. You could live anywhere in the city and still be within 25 minutes from the college. The only part you don't want to stay in is the North east section. It's pretty seedy. If you get a map, dot out the college, then Peach Street goes straight into the city and stops at the lake, if you stay west of peach and near peach, then things are pretty nice, college type housing.
So this is what I recommend.
Get a map that lays out the streets and is big enough to show the whole city and the college. Call and get a Sunday "Erie Times News" sent to you. ( try www.GoErie.com for the number)

Jim

thanks for the advice. i'll check that out as it gets closer to when i head out there.

I am trying to decide between the PBL and the regular LDP..

ah, that seems to be the dilemma for quite a few people! From what I understand they are both great programs, and best of luck in making your decision!

I heard in your second year, if you are in the Lecture pathway, you have tests almost every monday... I don't know whether that is good or bad. I'll have to think some more about which way I learn better.

after being in drexel's post-bacc program i realized that having small tests every monday will be much better than having huge block exams that cover every single metabolic cycle in the body....damn biochem!! there are pros and cons to each but i think it boils down to lectures or teach yourself. i'm a lecture person personally...

Personally I would prefer to have an exam every week, maybe not on Monday though 🙁 Smaller exams break up the information, that way each exam does not cover as much information. In addition, lecture discussions and information stay fresh in my mind only so long! Frequent exams will allow me to test when things are still fresh. Just my opinion, I am sure others would prefer the block exams. Either way, it doesn't really matter to me because I am grateful to be heading to med school! 😀
