Aal I just messaged you. Is anyone flying to Tampa or Sarasota on the 15th and would like to carpool? Message me please. Thanks!

Anyone here now for the interview tomorrow or went to the interview monday??

I'm just here for tonight then leaving after the interview tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else will be there

I am here for the interview tomorrow. Posted up at the Holiday Inn.

Any one for 10/14??? Would love to car pool. Somehow, I think I am the only one who interview on Oct lol

Have you just been dying of boredom all day?! The area seems nice but nothing jumped out at me to do.

Lol i got here at like 4:30 and chilled then walked down the road and got some food and then I came back and started reading over interview Q's and info on the school. Pretty boring stuff!

Yeah I pretty much did the same thing. Did you rent a car?

Nah i got a driver to drive me here and I have a taxi set up for tomorrow morning and after the interview then a driver to take me back to the airport tomorrow! I wish I would have rented a car. I would have spent the day in Tampa Bay

I will be there on Oct. 14th too! 😛

awesome:] by the way..were you still looking to carpool? I am looking at flights right now and am thinking with these prices of flying into Tampa instead of Sarasota..

I booked my flight to Sarasota already! Yeah booking through Tampa would be cheaper but think about the distance you have to drive. Googlemap said it is almost an hour drive. My family decided to come with me so I do not need carpool anymore. 🙁(( Sorry though

September 12th anyone???

im looking to carpool~

Good luck to tomorrow's interviewees!

For those who have interviewed at Lecom, do you guys recommend flying to Tampa or Sarasota? And rent a car, or take a cab?

Also is anybody else interviewing on Dec 12th?

I couldn't find a cheap flight to Sarasota so I am flying to tampa. It's only an hour drive from tampa to Sarasota and I think it'll be a fun drive! Lol

Yeah, that's what I will probably do.

On the Google map, it looks like there is a toll road in between TPA and the school.
Does anybody know how much it is and if it takes quarters only?

Thanks!

I'm from FL and I know that the tolls have a cash option so you don't need to have quarters. Or if you do, its like at most $0.50. It shouldn't be too much. Def less than $4.

You also have the option of driving through the SunPass lane and they take a picture of the license plate and send the bill to your address...that way you don't have to carry so much loose change on you. The tolls are on avg 50 cents.

Thanks guys!

Flights, hotel (or poorly-rated inn 🙂), and the rental car are all reserved now!

Super excited AND nervous; can't wait for the interview!!

I just got done with Lecom interview on Oct 14, and I have to say this is one of the most relaxing interview you have ever gotten in your life. Everyone is so friendly such that it produces a low stress environment. I love the school from the looks to the philosophy. The dean is WOW the most honest dean ever. I love how he can vision dentistry and doing business together and especially he cares about the underserved area and focus on producing dentists that would serve and do really well in those area. This is my goal also. Absolutely love this school.
About the PBL, this is not as scary as others have told you. You still have mentors and facilitators who guide you in the right directions. I know PBL is not for everyone but I think this is a refreshing and innovating idea to study. We are all adults here with determinations, this wont be an issue.
Anyway, this is just my own thought. I love this school and would pick it over others school out there.

Thanks for your input!

Did you fly to Tampa or Sarasota-Bradenton? And did you drive or take a cab?

The fact that some facilitators have no education in science is a little unnerving, though.

I thought that was a it strange as well. I'd feel more comfortable with a facilitator that knows the subject matter, at the very least.

I beg the difference. In my interview, they told me specifically that the facilitators are all professors that teaches sciences and such. The 1st year will be all about basic science, but they started to incorporate more dental anatomy. I think it will be okay. I learned most on my own during undergrad anyway.

No begging needed. Marjorie Bell, MBA said to our group in reference to facilitating group sessions, "A lot of it is over my head, but I've even picked up some of the science!" I think her point was that the PBL was an effective method of teaching - so much so that she, with no science background, had picked up some of the material herself. Maybe we can get a current student (Jay!) to chime in and clear this up.

Don't get me wrong, I liked LECOM. The clinics were like nothing I'd seen before, and I think they'll produce very competent general dentists. If you know you don't want to do research and you don't want to specialize, this seems like a good choice. The tuition is actually comparatively low to other OOS options. But regardless of the cost, teaching yourself the material without much guidance from an academic of the sciences is a little scary.
