Hey guys,

I have an interview at LECOM on September 14, and I was wondering if anyone else has interviewed there yet and can give any information about what types of questions they ask?

Since they're just starting out they obviously don't have any info in the interview feedback of SDN, so anyone's that can give some advice, please help!

The first round of LECOM interviews are on August 31st I believe 🙂 But I'm also wondering what type of interview it will be 🙂

I have the Sept 14th interview also. I dont know what to expect, trying to ask around. So far, I have heard they will ask generic questions like " why dentistry", what made you want to pursue this field? tell us a little bit about yourself?


If you hear anything, plzz share.. thanx
 
Interview Oct/12. Anybody in GA has the same day? Wanna carpool, share hotel....

My LECOM interview is scheduled for Sept 7th. I imagine there will be group interviews because it is a PBL curriculum.

I don't see them asking too many questions about why you want to attend that school. It's new, we have nothing to go off of.
 
I'm assuming it's a group interview as well, because of the PBL curriculum.
I'm assuming they will ask a lot of scenario-based and ethical questions about dentistry. They will also probably ask a lot about our application and our ECs and dental experience (I'm assuming it's open-file).

No one should worry about it too much. For all the effort we have to put into making ourselves appealing candidates, they have to appeal to us too as a new school. Unless LECOM is your only acceptance, the tour should thoroughly convince us to be part of an inaugural class.
 
how the heck would a group interview work anyway?

and if we were presented with a hypothetical situation, for instance, how would we distinguish ourselves? PBL is based off of group contribution after all

would it be sort of like...group A did better than group B so lets give preference for members in group A ?
 
i had a group interview at usc a couple of years ago and it sucked. we were in a group of about 10 and they had us simulate PBL while three people observed and took notes/moderated. the problem wasn't anything difficult, but they present it to you little bits at a time and make you stress about it and feel like you're wrong the whole time. the worst part was wondering if i was contributing enough to the group or was i talking too much or was i working well with the group. it felt awkward and forced the whole time and i didn't like it much. hopeful LECOM can do it better than usc.

while that does seem really annoying, i feel that it is practical to be given a situation like that. interesting way to be interviewed though

how long did it take you all to receive interviews after you sent your supplemental and money in?

my supplemental and fee were done on june 29th, but i didn't take the DAT until july 30th. i sent them my unofficial scores on august 1st and received and interview invite on august 2nd.
 
wow im mad..... i sent my unofficial scores and they said they don't accept unofficial scores!! they said i had to wait until my official scores came in! wow.

and howwwww did u get a supplemental before taking the DAT??!!!!!!
 
I had to wait about 2 weeks. They were one of my first interviews.
 
For those who had an interview today, how did it go? What questions did they ask, I hope it went well!
 
It was a group interview with about 6 people. and Just barely asked any questions. It was just us students talking amongst each other... commenting on things that other students were talking about...

The only questions i had were.... Tell me about yourself and Why dentistry? lol

Their other health professional schools are highly rated. Why do you think they have the resources to open another campus with a pharm & dental school in bradenton?

It depends on if you like PBL or not. I believe it is worth attending the interview to see if the school is a good fit for you or not.
 
Is there an essay we need to write during the interview?
 
How were you guys notified for the interview?

Email, phone call?
 
I was notified by email.

Has anyone else had their lecom interviews? I also have my interview on Sep 14 and its my first one so I'm a little nervous.

Who is planning on renting a car? I have to stay an extra day because the flight would leave at noon back to Minnesota...

There is a Motel 6 near the interstate, about 10 minutes from campus. It is 35.99/night. It is alright, but the room I was in smelled.

There are standards around too, comfort in, holiday inn express, etc.

I'm staying at the wingate, it's the first hotel listed in the email they sent out, and if you call them they'll give you a special rate for lecom. I believe it was 59 a night.
 
For the September 7th interviewees...how did it go?

Was it a group interview? What kind of questions did they ask?
 
I hope the September 7th interviews went well! I have an interview at LECOM October 26, anyone else?? I'd love to hear more about what to expect at the interviews! So far I've only had an interview at UF, but it wasn't a group interview like was referenced in the previous posts in this discussion... I don't think I really understand the whole "group interview" process? It sounds kind of strange if you ask me..
 
I'm skeptical about LECOM...

It takes a lot longer than 11 months to construct a dental school. I guess they haven't really promised that they'll be finished with it, so maybe they intend to group us with the D.O. kids!?

I keep driving by, hoping to see men in hard-hats.......always disappointed.
 
Yea where are the interviews taking place and those who interviewed already what are they saying about the construction?

I reserved and already paid $99/night at that hotel 🙁

Whaaat???? I just reserved it too and it was only for $59 + tax! and i didn't even have to pay now. They just asked me for the credit card number (but without charging it) so that they can reserve a room for me.

😱 Maybe I'll try calling them to see if they do something about mine 🙂 I'm a broke student.

EDIT: yay!! I just gave them a call and they were kind enough to give me that $59 rate 🙂 😀 So happy.
