I need advice on what rotations and where from any fellow lecomers who have rotated in the Pittsburgh area. I have psych, elective, then 3xIM, OB, Peds, Elective, FP, 2xSur, Core Selective. If anybody has any advice at all regarding electives and rotations I would be very happy to hear it. Thanks

I'm a LECOM grad, and I did most of my rotations in Pittsburgh.

For FP, I am partial to St. Margaret (as it is where I am right now and I love it here). I did FP rotations at Mercy and West Penn. Both are really nice hospitals, and I learned a lot at both places.

I did surgery at Mercy. The attendings I worked with were really nice and didn't pimp during the OR time, which made it a lot more enjoyable (well, as enjoyable as retracting for hours can be.)

I did psych at Allegheny General. I am kind of lukewarm about that rotation. It was all outpatient psych, and I would have preferred to do at least some inpatient psych.

I did some medicine subspecialties (endo, rheum, and ICU) at West Penn. Once again, the attendings were great and I learned a lot.

If you go to Mercy or West Penn, you'll have a good experience - I didn't meet very many bad attendings or residents. And of course St. Margaret is the best of them all 😉

im in p-burgh right now as well . . . i wouldn't try and figure out too much yet- i tried to be all organized and plan out all my rotations, and then in the lottery i only got first pick for medicine, and everything else i had to scramble at the leftovers. my only advice to you- dont do obgyn at at allekiski- it was awful, and i wanted to kill myself. i've done medicine at mercy and im doing peds at mercy now- i love mercy- all the residents i have met have been awesome. but chances are, at least for third year, you may or may not get what you want, so be prepared to at least have one or two at places that are not your top choices. its life.

AlleKiski is truly painful. Mercy is great for everything, West Penn is great except you have to pay for food, even McKeesport was good for IM. Ug. I am at AlleKiski now, and I too may need to check in to the psych unit by the end of next week. The drive alone is enough to put me over the edge, and thats BEFORE rounds! Gr. Its only 7 more days. 7 more days.
