Just wanted to know if anyone else has received LECOM post-bac acceptances yet?

I am a 23 year old med. tech, with a BS in Medical Technology. I got my letter of acceptance a couple weeks ago, but wanted to know if anyone who's been through the program has any insight to give. Also if anyone else has been accepted!!

I got in a couple months ago, in December, but I won't be attending. Good luck 🙂

If y'all dont mind me asking, Is it too late to apply for the program now? and also what were your stats? gpa mcat etc... Im very interested as it seems this is one of the few post bac programs that seems to fit my profile...i think. 2.91 gpa and a 22 q on mcats which im retaking in the next month. Thanks!

Hey I have a question . . . I am currently waitlisted at LECOM, but I am applying for the post-bac program. I had some issues getting my secondary in, so that is why I got a late interview and waitlisted. I'm wondering if I would be better off re-applying to LECOM and possibly getting an early interview, or doing the post-bac and not interviewing until february . . . I have a 23R and 3.5 overall, 3.1 science, really stressing about what to do . . . HELP!

hey, this thread seems to have been very inactive! anyone attending the postbac program this upcoming september?? just trying to see who else will be joining me...

MCAT: 23O
Cum GPA: 3.1
Science GPA: 2.75
Non-Science: 3.4

I am stuck in a dilemma right now and I could really use some helpful advice. I recently got into Ross University's Medical Education Review Program (MERP) which is a 15 week program in Miami, Florida and if I complete the program, I have gauranteed admission into their January starting class. However, I also applied to DO schools last year and received an offer to be in LECOM's Health Sciences Program (HSP) in Bradenton, Florida. This program is a 2 semester, 1 year long post-bac program designed to allow students to take hardcore science classes in order to bump up their science gpa. After the first semester, any students with a minimum MCAT of 22 and a gpa above a 3.0 in their program, is gauranteed an interview with LECOM's osteopathic school. The Ross program begins July 28th, 2008 and LECOM's postbac program begins September 3rd, 2008. In the meanwhile I am reapplying to DO schools, as early as possible this year in order to increase my chances of getting in. (last year I applied after I graduated in Dec so I was kind of late).

Here are the pros and cons of both of my options:

Ross
Pros:
-MERP would be a good refresher program for me and help strengthen my science foundation before delving into medical school material
-begin med school in january if successfully completing the program

Cons:
-still a caribbean medical school so it has its drawbacks of being a foreign medical graduate

LECOM HSP
Pros:
-postbac is only 1 yr
-i already possess the minimum MCAT so I have to achieve higher than a 3.0 to get a gauranteed interview
-opportunity to be placed into a US med school rather than a foreign
-increase my chances of getting into other DO schools if possible

Cons:
-is 1 year long as opposed to Ross's 15 weeks
-even after gettin above a 3.0, its gauranteed interview, not gauranteed admission, so i would still be taking a chance (however I do really well in interviews)
-med school would start in sept of 09 as opposed to ross's january start date

Once again, I am open to any ideas and advice you guys have available for me and I would like to make the best decision rather than regret it later on in my future. For me, choosing from MD and DO is not that big of a deal but I would like to keep my options open for possibly specializing later in the future. I know Ross University is actual a lot more rigorous than some US medical schools and that is why they have such a high passing rate on their board exams, however I dont know how much a foreign medical graduate status is going to affect me in the future.

Hi frencheezy,

They have a post-bac program in Bradenton? I thought it was only in Erie, PA.

Personally, if it were me...I would definitely pick LECOM over the other. I know you'd like to get started earlier, but while the post bac is twice as long, it will still go pretty quickly.

Hey thanks krissss,

I already decided on attending the LECOM postbac. Thanks for the help though. Where will you be going?

Great, but you still didn't answer my question. Where did you get the information about LECOM Bradenton having a post bac? I saw nothing on their website. How did you apply?

Really curious because if I can stay down here, I would prefer it.

I still have a couple of years before I would be applying and LECOM is where I am looking, both post bac and for medical school.

Thanks,
Kris

Hey Kris,

Sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier but I was actually referred to the postbac program by LECOM-Bradenton when I applied to their D.O. program last year. Later on I found out that the postbac program, as of now, is ONLY at the Erie location. I am sorry for the confusion. By the way, I went to Erie yesterday and checked out the campus and the main building is really really nice. Even though its not in Florida, I would still recommend looking into it. Let me know if you have any more questions.

No problem. I guess I was hoping 😳 that the Bradenton Campus would have the post-bac. I still got a couple of years, maybe that will change (hopefully). Are you going to apply to LECOM-B for your DO? I've been reading the threads of both LECOM campuses and there is enthusiasm with both. They will probably be #1 and #2 choices for me (B'ton first).

Would love to hear about your experiences when you go through the program (great time to set up a blog..hint, hint).

Thanks for getting back to me!

Ya, i am definitely going to be applying to LECOM-Bradenton as well as other D.O. schools. However, the LECOM postbac program obviously has stronger linkages with its actual D.O. program as well (hence the gauranteed interview after successfully getting a 3.0 in their first semester of the program as well as minimum 22 MCAT). But remember, theres never any harm in expanding your options by applying early and broadly!

does anyone have any suggestions for what to write for the personal essay? to someone who was accepted for fall 2008, did you actually talk about wanting to attend the program so that you may enhance your credentials for applications or did you give other reasons? any suggestions would be most welcome! thanks 🙂

i personally dont remember having to write a personal essay to get into the postbac program. you can definitely mention enhancing your credentials as one of your reasons because the primary reason most students attend the postbac is to make themselves better applicants for eventually getting into medical or pharmacy school.

on a side note to other postbaccers, what kind of laptop will you guys be using? are you guys purchasing new ones? looking into tablet pcs? just curious as to which laptop would be beneficial for the program or whether one is actually needed. thanks.

I applied to the post-bac program and was wondering if there is any deposit that is required after being accepted...............silly question but I wanted to know how much it is so I can prepare for it in case I get accepted into the program....How many students do they take in every year?

The way it worked this year is that they used the application fee as the deposit (I believe it was $100). So it was helpful and made it easier for us LECOM students. Also, I think the amount of students they take in every year for the program varies but this year there was about 50.

Not a minority and will graduate with public health degree this coming June, so I have taken most prereqs except for physics which I will be taking the year after I graduate at a CC and the mcat will be taken next summer.

Btw what other DO schools offer postbacs??? any ideas/advice really appreciated!!!🙂

you are going to need a good mcat score to compensate the gpa.

i just got a new macbook, cuz i was sick of having a pc that required constant maintenance... i just graduated from undergrad and had my pc laptop for 4 years and had to replace the Hard Drive like 3 times during that time... anyway, i have a macbook, my roomate has a macbook pro i think, another kid i know just got a new HP laptop....

where is everyone from thats goin to the postbac program? im from Michigan, i know a guy from iowa, penns, and ohio... jw if most of us will be from the midwest or what...

Hi everyone. I will be attending the PB program this year and just moved to Erie. If anyone wants to meet up, send me a email!

Hello to all of you getting ready to start the postbac program!

If anyone is still looking for a place to stay, I am looking for another girl to share a two-bedroom right next to the school. The apartment is very nice and the proximity is wonderful. All utilities except electric are included, only fish and birds are allowed (I have a small parrot), and I have the living room furnished already.

Private message me if you're interested!

(I'm also willing to host a female student more short-term if needed- let me know.)

Can anyone tell me the course schedule for LECOM's postbac? I looked on the website but it's very vague (I did email for more info but it's Sunday and I won't likely get that right away).
I'm thinking of the postbac as a way to brush up undergrad science GPA next year in case I don't get in to LECOM-Erie this cycle. I'm actually considering moving there to do the postbac, get established etc.
Thanks in advance
Lisa
