This post is for current LECOM students. I am debating 3 yr and 4 yr schools and I would like those in the LECOM (PA) program to offer some feedback. Do you like the accelerated program? Do you think it is worth it in the end (gaining one more year of work and one less of school)? Also, what are your breaks? Any insight would be fantastic as I am very indecisive and would appreciate other students thoughts on the matter.

Thank you and good luck on finals everyone!!!! :)

wouldn't it make more sense to ask anyone that attends a three year program since we have only 1 poster from lecom that rarely ever posts anymore? Just a thought...

I did not post to get a reply like that. If you are going to post a sarcastic post, don't bother. If you want to inform me politely about posting to all 3 yr students, I would appreciate that much more.

I would like information about LECOM specifically since I may be attending. If anyone in another 3 yr program would like to post, that would be great as well. If I do not see much response, I will create a different post. Thanx.

Why did you move this? I wanted students who are already seasoned in the program to respond, not people who are deciding to attend. Will it get noticed on pre-pharmacy?

Yes, you would gain a year of work and forgo one less year of tuition. However, you would not be able to enjoy any breaks because you would be going to school year round. If you are the type of student that enjoys this type of schooling, it may be good for you to go to LECOM.

The only scary thing to me about LECOM is that the interview is a telephone interview. It is convenient because you would not have to drive to the campus, but in a big sense you are missing an invaluable experience of seeing the university in person. If it was me, I would definitely visit the campus before committing to attend, because you don't want that huge shock to hit you right in the face if you decide to attend only to find out that you don't like the school.

First off, I apologize for all of the people who were so NOT helpful. Don't worry about that, though.

Anyways, I am a current LECOM student, and I absolutely love it, SO FAR. HAHA. I'm sure it's gonna get rough, but hey, this is pharmacy school, so what do you expect? I love the school and the campus. I really think it is incredibly professional, overall. I think it is a wonderful pharmacy school to attend, and I am not being biased. I think you should definitely consider LECOM. I hope this helps.

Ashlee,
Can you tell us what your schedule is like? Are you usually in the classroom 8-5 most days? Thanks.

Thank you Ashlee, I hope to see you there next year. I am glad to hear that you like it as I've have heard a good deal of negative comments about the program. I guess you'll see that anywhere though, to each their own. They received my application in the beginning of December, later then I had hoped for but at least it is in now. Good luck with the next semester, enjoy your much deserved time off!!!!:)

My sister is a current student at Lecom (c/o 2007), so I can give some information about Lecom.
Overall, Lecom students lacks in clinical knowledge and don't really know how to research, compile data, give presentations, etc. They don't have any of the in-depth clinical rotations like other students in PA schools. Indeed, Lecom has an easier curriculum, but they have the stress level due to the accelerated program though.
The rotations aren't easier, they just don't get nice elective choices. Lecom emphasizes on producing pharmacists that serve the community (retail). If you want to go to clinical or researches or residency after graduation you should consider other schools.

Thank you, this seems like very practical advice. I would like to hear what other LECOM students or friends of students have to say about this. This is interesting as I was considering clinical pharmacy as opposed to strictly retail.
