leg muscles

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Primarly, hip and knee extension would be needed, in addition to some plantar flexion for the sake of completion. Chief muscles are: hip extension - gluteus maximus m. (inf. gluteal n.) and hamstrings (sciatic n.); knee extension - quadriceps m. (femoral n.); plantar flexion - gastrocnemius and soleus mm. (tibial n.)

Myxedema is right. Be aware that the answer changes dramatically if it asks about sitting up from supine position

Sitting up from a supine position would require flexion of the hip joint, which is done primarily via iliopsoas (innervated by femoral n.)

I'm having hard time remembering all the muscles and what they do. Can anyone please suggest anything that will help me learn these easily?

If you think in groups, you should be able to get 90% of the way there. The way I learned it was by doing every movement myself and use my mind's eye to imagine which muscles are contracting in my body. For example, extending my leg involves contracting the quads. Flexing my leg involves the hamstrings. Extending my thigh is the glutes, etc etc.

lol....

So far I have come up with a list and mnemonics to work on. I will try charts too. What chart did you use? Thanks!

Made my own. origins, insertions, vascular supply, innervation, function, LoF, agonists/antagonists, what happens when the antagonist of that muscle loses function...it was SUCH a pain, but made for a pretty bonfire.

wow WGB.. I would really love to see your fabulous creation.. With all that work it should definitely get a spot in the art museum... no joke! lol... I will give you 10 likes for it if I can see it... lool

Notice how I said that it made for a pretty bonfire? I sometimes regret it, but mostly, I never want to see it again.

ahhhh... After all that hard work, I would have framed it and displayed it on my wall and for my future children too see how hard I worked... lolll jk... but thanks for the suggestion! I will go make my own... 😛

I rarely make charts, but when I do make them I never want to see them again after the exam. I don't want to be reminded of how many painful hours went into their creation.

I don't believe OINAs are on Step 1, but that's just anecdotal information I've heard from upperclassmen

I don't know if I'm gonna throw away all these condensed charts/graphs/mnemonics etc I made throughout the year. I put in too much time and hard work in them while depriving myself of other things when other ppl around me were enjoying their lives. They better be worth something at the end. I think these will help me in the next exam. So throwing them away wouldn't make me happy.

@notbobtrustme, if that's true I rather use my energy learning something else than. Thanks...

Unless you go to a true P/F school, you'll spend a lot of time learning non-board relevant material during MS1. There's no way around it, sadly.
