Right now, my PS is 540 words (3050 characters w/ spaces).

Do schools frown upon PS that are noticeably shorter than the limit?

250 characters is not noticeable, and theyd probably appreciate having to read less, as long as its good. 3000-4000 characters is noticeably shorter though

If you've said all that you want, its structured, and reads well, that length shouldn't be a problem. There is something to be said for brevity.
