Hello, I am not from the US and am confused on what the course lengths mean:
For example 8/12 for general chem. What is 8 ? I realize it is a full year so is one semester 4/12?
Also 4/6; Is this the same as 4/12?

Thanks

I believe the first number is semester hours, and the second number is quarter hours. So at a school on semesters general chem 1 and 2 are each 4 credits to give 8 total, and a school on quarters is something like general chem 1, 2, and 3 each 4 credits to give 12. That is what i am getting from it, hope i could help.

That's exactly what it means. Not all U.S. schools are on the same system, so our pre-reqs are expressed in semester hours and quarter hours. The semester hours are generally always first, as they're lower.
