Hi all,

I just learned that the job that I signed a contract for, which is what my first attending job would have been, let me go even before I started due to budgetary issues. I am feeling a lot of different emotions and kind of in shock.

That being said I can't just sit on my heels as I was planning on being the sole income provider in my family. If anyone knows of any good opportunities child psychiatry focused in either Texas or Florida DM me.

Sorry this happened to you. Sounds like if they couldn't find the budget for you before you even start it's probably not somewhere you'd want to stay long anyway, so hopefully a little silver lining there. I don't personally know of any positions there, but if you look at some of the job boards it looks like there's some positions available in those states. I'll post links below, given your situation you could always look at signing somewhere briefly with the plan to switch quickly or look into telehealth gigs temporarily.

Looks like Texas Tech has multiple CAP positions if you're okay with Lubbock, Amarillo, or Corpus Cristi. I was e-mailed by a recruiting director from Texas A&M in December about a new branch for their program in San Angelo. At the time they were looking for a residency director and core faculty (including CAP). I didn't respond but don't mind forwarding him your info if you're interested. Looks like several UT programs are looking for CAP docs, top hit in the 3rd link is for a program at Houston.

Look at the places you want to live at.
Google the heck out of every psychiatry place.
Start calling them up to inquire if interested in having CAP join.
Pick the best of the ones who interview and offer a contract.

This place canceling you now, is truly a blessing. You just avoided boarding the Titanic before it left port. Go buy a lottery ticket before this lucky spell ends! An organization that is so dysfunctional to not make it work for CAP is mindboggling.

I would be interested in locuming at one of the UT programs but I'm not sure who to connect with to make that happen.

I did hear about the Texas A&M program. I didn't know that they had child focused roles on their general faculty residency positions but now that I think about it that makes sense. If you could forward his information that could be promising.

Yeah, in a way I couldn't blame them because they let other docs go and cut their 401k match for all employees which really does paint me a picture that if they're not in the red then soon they will be.

I did email some private practices but I find that a lot of them want a 60/40 cut which I was never going to agree with.

Look into locums as well, will let you have something for income while you keep searching for a long term option.

Whereabouts in TX are you looking?

You honestly have time to get this figured out. I know some fellows who didn't even start looking for jobs until like a month ago, particularly if you have a license in the state (or the state is fast), I certainly wouldn't sweat the time frame.
