I just recently came across an older thread (credit: AlexFLA) that I was thinking we could maybe get going again, and perhaps get to become a sticky thread.

We all have chosen PT for our own reasons, and for me it was an easy decision after countless hours of volunteering and observing that made me come to love the profession, and I can't see myself doing anything else. But let's be honest - we all need money. So what's post-grad life like?

Practicing PTs, what's it like? Are you financially comfortable? What is your salary like? How much was your debt? Do you ever struggle to pay the bills? Do you worry about money? Do you own a home/car? What's your best financial advice?

I realize how incredibly personal these questions are, but please be as real and straight up as you can. I'm sure I am not the only one who wonders/worries about the forthcoming student loan debt, salaries, loan repayments, etc. and is wondering what we have to look forward to handling. If you'd like, you can use this template to share:

Graduation Year:
Current PT salary:
Student Loan Debt:
Loan Repayment plan: (i.e. standard, income-based, etc.)
Monthly Loan Payment:
Planned Number of Years to Pay Off Debt:

I hope for this thread to help others like myself become more financially aware of the decisions they are making during their undergraduate and graduate years, and therefore be in better control of their finances upon leaving PT school and the years to follow.

Thanks!

p.s. feel free to add/change anything! I'm certainly not the authority on this subject - I am beginning my DPT program this fall and so I have much to learn about finances (and the human body...). I would love it if someone more knowledgeable could make this thread more useful and informational to other current/aspiring PT students!

Make a google doc or survey monkey?

May I suggest you also add the graduation year to the survey, or how many years the person has worked as a PT.
