So I'm almost to my break and I'm already getting a little bored so I thought I'd start something just for fun.....

Why did you choose the handle that you did?

and

Who or what is in your avatar?

In honor of the fact that I don't want to work on my molecular bio report right now...

RockStarKDub! I am a Rockstar and my initials are KW 😉

And my avatar is the love of my life, my 18-month-old golden retriever, Fozzie Bear.

Definately don't want to study for my anatomy final...

My avatar is my 3 year old Boston Elvis Marie and she is what brings me the most joy! Same goes for my handle....

Good luck with finals everyone!!😀

My avatar is my turtle, Rex, on a cross country journey. I held her out the window in Yellowstone to get her with the huge bison on the road.

My name - a bastardization of my dog's name, Danka (she's a german shepherd, hence the german). Danka -> Dankle -> Hankle -> Hoodle... she really only goes by Hoodle or Hoo at this point. she's quite dignified, though.

In honor of my biochem final tomorrow...nope, today...in 8 hours..haha.

aretoo just sounded cute 🙂 (as in "vets are doctors too", etc.)

avatar is the very cute, very smart 4 yo OTTB that I rode this summer..at his first show where he jumped his first course ever and won the class 🙂

So, I have two exams on Monday.

And in honor of the Latin exam:

quo usque tandem abutere, catilina, patientia nostra?

Or, my personal favorite part of the speech, when Cicero pretends to be the country speaking to himself he says, "M. Tulli, quid agis?" which effectively means "Marcus Tullius, what's up?"

Hahaha, oh Cicero, you're such a riot.

Obviously, I need sleep.

i chose my handle for two reasons:

i sang in a hardcore band with that name

its how i feel about things that i do in my life...even when the task at hands seems impossible

I am an R.E.M. freak. Well, and many other bands too...NIN is another personal favorite (how about that strange span of musical interest? Folk to industrial...I'm a weirdo.....) But I do not think a handle called Starf***er would fly 😉

I don't have an avatar yet because I am technologically challenged...but it would be of one of my hognose snakes. Luv my hoggies!

BanditAlfi, I took Latin for seven years...middle school through high school. Fun stuff ain't it heehee....I love Caesar's war journals..."we went here...we killed these people...then we went here....and we killed these people..." easiest translations I ever did!

Study for Ecology.....stalk SDN...hmmm

"BostonLvr" is pretty obvious- I am pretty much obsessed with Boston Terriers and all smashed-face creatures. 😛

My avatar is my daughter Mya, a 3 year old Boston Baby.

Hey aretoo, I have a biochem exam tomorrow too! Woohoo!

My name Lailanni I picked because I like it. I've had that as my screen names since I was old enough to use the internet : )

My avatar is my lionhead rabbit Buster - he's way cool! I could tell many stories about him, but the biochem is unfortunately calling......

I share your love of smashed-face critters! There is nothing cuter!

Bostons, what's not to love??

My name is my two childhood dogs aka best friends - rose and emma.

My avatar is my current dog aka best friend.

All I can say is as much as I really do miss school and can't wait for vet school, I am so glad I have graduated for now - after reading all of those posts. good luck! break is around the corner. 🙂

My avitar is one of my rabbits, Finnigan who finds a way to make me laugh each and everyday with his antics
I chose bunnygirl as my handle because this is what I am known as at my various jobs, school, etc. I end up being the "voice" of rabbits..standing up for their rights and what not 😍

nyanko is an online handle I use often. It's a childish/affectionate Japanese word for cat. (nyan being the sound a cat makes and ko meaning little) and also there's a line of toys that are cats in food in Japan, like this.

nyanko-shake.jpg

My avatar is Mahoro from Mahoromatic, a Gainax anime series from a few years back

Why yes, I'm a giant nerd, who wants to know? XD

bunnygirl, one of my really good friends lives in Floral Park!

I am in there with you guys that have an upcoming biochem final - mine is Monday. And, after I meet with my largest client for lunch today (the calling of my current career), I will turn off the cellphone and dig in to the book, notes, etc.

My handle is bclover = Border Collie Lover. I currently have two wonderful BC's that I herd with and love on, and I do have some great pics of them to use as my avatar, but just keep forgetting to do it.

PlantersPunch is my beloved horse's name and my avatar is his beautiful face begging for mints at a show. He's handsome and knows it, when he knows I'm mad he makes this face or just when he wants something.😍

Philomycus = genus of a common brown land slug b/c I love slugs

Avatar= Supersquirrel. 😀 I had an avatar of my 3-legged pet squirrel (Rocky) up last year, so this year I thought I needed a little more superpower to help me get in. Chances are better with supersquirrel. I'm convinced of it.

LeahUndertheSea is my handle because I'm a marine biologist and I love to scuba dive.

My avatar is Walden, our 4 year old german x husky x collie x lab x everything under the sun!

While I don't have any tests to procrastinate studying, I thought I'd participate anyway. 🙂

My screen name is because I'm a female from Virgina (and relatively unimaginative at coming up with screen names). My avatar used to be an Ann Taintor image. I love so many of the Ann Taintor pics that I just picked one more or less randomly. Their thing is showing stereotypical 1950s females doing domestic things, but with sarcastic comments at the bottom that totally reverse the meaning of the picture. They crack me up.

My current avatar is a pic my boyfriend sent me because he knew I'd get a kick out of it. I am endlessly amused by websites like icanhascheezburger.com. But the captions that people put on them are always writen with "cutsy" grammar and spelling, and it drives me up the wall! In case you can't read the writing in my avatar, it says "I question the general assumption that felines are inherently deficient in the area of grammar and sentence structure." (Larger pic available here http://plonkmedia.org/thorn/images/254/i question.jpg/) 😛

Just thought I'd reply since like a lot of you, I am procrastinating studying for my finals! I'm applying next year so I haven't posted very often.

My name is unimaginative b/c all of the other handles I tried were already taken. My avatar is my beautiful medium-haired kitty, Buddy. We adopted him after he was rescued from a home with over 50 cats. He had all sorts of health problems, but he's doing great now!

Well, my name is my birthday in Hawaiian....December 4th. I have always used it as a nickname online, so figured I wouldn't change tradition. My avatar is my crazy puppy Blitz, a lab mix.

pa for pennsylvania. thbrd for thoroughbred. although people usually end up seeing path and bird. neither of which id call myself a big fan of

my avatar is my first seeing eye puppy, pasha, but i should probably change it sometime to my GSD, aster. also a former seeing eye puppy, but she didn't make it so shes now an agility and flyball superstar

Happy belated birthday, from a fellow Sag! 🙂

Immunology, Ethics, Bacteriology and now Micro finals are DONE. I can't quite face Anatomy just yet, so I'll play.

My handle is critterfixer because that's what I want to do--fix up critters. Also, ever since I was a teenager, my friends and family have always brought me their sick or injured animals or called me for advice. I'm the official critter fixer in my circle.

My avatar is my beloved husky, Noelani, who was a pound puppy and then a certified therapy dog until she developed parathyroid cancer and lupus. We recently had to let her go peacefully when she developed trabecular hepatocellular carcinoma and had a tumor rupture. 🙁

Her name means beautiful girl from heaven in Hawaiian, and now we've sent her back, grateful for the time she was loaned to us.

You just made my day, I'm pretty sure.

My handle is pretty unimaginitive but I've been using it for the past five years so...

shuvball1: I play volleyball at SHU (seton hall), the 1 was just added on for good measure 🙂

Yeah, studying.... not looking forward to that again... oh well.

My handle is BobDog, after the character on Mr. Rogers.... come one now... don't act like you don't know what Mr. Rogers is....and don't act like you wouldn't know what I was talking about if I started talking about "make believe land" or Lady Elaine or Mr. McSpeedy. Anyways, just a tribute to one of the best characters on the best kids show ever... they just don't make them like that anymore. I used to have a picture of the real BobDog as my avatar, but I decided it looked a little creepy so...

My new avatar is Panda Bear, our 2 year old Shepard mix. She was a stray that we adopted. She reminded me that I wouldn't be happy doing just bench science all my life and that I needed to get back involved in vet med and start applying and translating some of my research interests into the "real world." I will forever be indebted to her for that. 😀

Preston is my little dachshund and I'm his mom, hence pressmom. Also that would account for the dachshund x-ing sign. I have another dog too, sweet little Henry, my shelter maltipoo. They're both 4.

Critter, that micro anatomy exam was killer, wasn't it? And once again, I'm sorry about the loss of your dog. 🙁

Imagine was my horse's show name (his barn name was Sammy) who, sadly, had to be put down at New Bolton because of bacterial pneumonia.
The 2 Jack Russells are 2 of my 3 crazy Jack Russell Terriorists, Brewster & Chloe.

(The spelling of 'terriorist' was not a mistake-they are terriorists)

My handle is BobDog, after the character on Mr. Rogers....

So Bob has nothing to do with your name, huh? I always assumed you were a guy named Bob. (Or maybe had a dog named Bob...) With that assumption proven false, I'm now wondering if you are actually female.

Which leads to me my next question...is anyone on this forum NOT female? (because everyone I thought was male from handles or other random things have been proven not to be).

Certainly one thing I'm learning here is that most of my assumptions about others based off of their names and other assorted clues have been dead wrong. 😛

I'm female! But my real first name is Kyle. Don't let that throw you. 😉

dyachei is a name I've been using since I started using the internet. It was a name I came up with for a fantasy story a long time ago and its almost never taken for screennames. I don't have an avatar because I can't make my pictures small enough.

{EDIT} I finally made one of my pictures smaller using a new program. It's a picture of my roommate's cat, Truman from last year. He liked to eat plastic bags and he was very good at opening closed doors. Came home one day to find him with his head in one of the handles of a gigantic plastic bags. It wasn't choking him or anything, so I grabbed a quick pic before I freed him - but he was walking around with it like a cape.

I am a male. It is funny, because you definitely assume things like gender, etc... from people's handles. When I really had no idea what most of these actually meant. I always pictured shuvball1 pushing some ball around 😀. I also thought pathbrd sat in a dark room somewhere looking at parrot histology all day (no offense to the real bird pathologists, of course 😀)

I work at a shelter (as if that weren't obvious from my unimaginative screen name) and about 2 years ago when I started this vet school pursuit in earnest, I thought I wanted to do shelter medicine. I changed my mind, but the name remains.

My avatar is Turner. He is a dog trapped in the body of a cat.

BobDog - I remember Lady Elaine and the postman guy and the Land of Make Believe but not the dog!

What made you change your mind?

HAHAHHA Bobdog, not quite, but I like the interpretation! I guess maybe I need to start thinking about a new name though since our season just ended, and since I'm a senior, I technically don't play volleyball anymore 🙁. It's funny how you can do something (ie play volleyball) your entire life and then one day it's just over...

It doesn't have to be over! You can still be involved with volleyball in recreation leagues and such.

I've played hockey starting from age 4 and through college, but in the times when I wasn't in school I've both coached youth hockey and played on a local women's traveling team. There's always a way to stay involved. 🙂

It's like she goes out of her way to find the most confusing slides EVER. It took me nearly 90 minutes for the lab portion. I'm glad the written part was fairly straightforward, though. Have I mentioned lately how much I ....(don't) LOVE...that class?!?

And thanks for the condolences. 🙂 We miss her, but I know I did the right thing.

(The spelling of 'terriorist' was not a mistake-they are terriorists)

Oh, I know you speak the truth. I have two border terriorists myself. (Actually, one is a strange mixture of border terrier and BASSETT! If you can imagine that.)

My nickname is Chris and I kinda have an obsession with the number 3😳. I wanted to be chris333 or chris0333 but it wouldn't let me so I had to add the 4th 3. No avatar for me, just never posted one.

Update: Avatar is now my cat. She is sooooooooooooooooooooo cute (okay maybe I am biased)

funny, I thought you were a bird pathologist

ugh! never! i like ponies and i like to cut things (i want to be an equine surgeon). I can't think of much id like less than being a bird pathologist (my apologies to anyone out there who is!) when picking the name it never crossed my mind that people would see anything other than thoroughbreds 🙂

Yeah, I thought the same thing as Bobdog. From your posts I knew you were into equine medicine, so I'm amazed I never figured that one out.

I must disagree and say that Mr. Dressup was waaaay better than Mr. Rogers. 😛 But, you Americans were deprived of that.

My screen name is Poke because.. well... that's what I do. I'm an obnoxious poker.. Fond of saying ::poke::, <poke>, *poke*, or /poke whenever someone wasn't paying attention to me in an IM session. 😛 I'm also terribly not creative with screen names.

I don't have an avatar, but oh, I will eventually. 😀

I always read it as path-bird too...

My sn is just a made up word that I've always used as my online name. My avatar is my lovely border collie mix Maya. She came from a shelter with a whole host of problems, but we are slowly working through them

What made you change your mind?

Just about all of the interesting cases end up getting euthanized. I would be very frustrated at not being able to follow through with treatment plans. I like to finish what I start 🙂 I know that in private vet med the client's finances also affect this, but it seems to be more prevalent in shelters.

I still want to volunteer at shelters, though - maybe doing spay/neuter, outside consults, or whatever. I just don't want to work there day in and day out.

Oh, I know you speak the truth. I have two border terriorists myself. (Actually, one is a strange mixture of border terrier and BASSETT! If you can imagine that.)

Wow-do you have a pict to post of the border terrier/bassett?? What a combo.
I have discovered (the obvious) w/ my terriorists-that 3 dogs constitute a 'pack'
I had 2 fairly mellow dogs (mellow for Jacks) & once I got the 3rd, they became a pack & have taken me hostage.

When I was in Africa with the Peace Corps, I was staying over at a friend's hut, and she and another friend were sleeping outside. They kept talking about some Indian friend of hers named "Fargeese". At the time, my nickname was "Jennix" and I was half asleep, so every time they would say "fargeese" I would yell out "What?" and then would get irritated because I didn't understand why they kept calling my name. The next morning we got the whole story sorted out, and Fargeese became my new nickname for when I doing something particularly stupid. Good times!

My avatar is of my two girls Monica and Paula. They are lab-ish and came from the same litter. Their names plus mine (Jennifer) makes us all Clinton's ladies!
