Hey everyone...

Just had a quick question. I am applying this summer, and am not using my school's committee letter because they said they cant have it ready until DECEMBER 😡!!!!!!!! So i am planning on sending in the standard two science one non-science.

So my question is, does having a letter from an MD I shadowed/volunteered with for 200+ hours count as a science letter? I have a letter from a chem professor and a history professor, but no other science professors know me as well as this MD. Thanks for the advice guys.

No, that is not a science letter. That is an MD letter.

'Science Letter' is sort of SDN shorthand. It's usually meant to mean a letter from a professor of a class (BCPMish) that you took for credit. In your case, the MD letter is not a 'science letter' in the common parlance.

The more important question, though, is whether or not it matters at the schools you're applying to. There are schools where you'll be able to apply using your three letter set, they just won't all accept those. Some are absolutely going to require two from real science professors; some are going to be more flexible. So it's in your best interest to check out the LoR requirements for the schools to which you're applying.
